Job DescriptionPosition Summary: JMT's Richmond, Virginia office is growing and seeks a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities across a variety of bridge and transportation structure projects at the local, state, and federal level, with a focus on growing JMT's Northern Virginia and DC presence. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering all project objectives for assigned bridge and structural design projects including planning, scope, schedule and budget, team coordination, stakeholder communication, risk management, resource management, quality assurance, and reporting. In addition, this individual will help lead and grow the bridge engineering staff in the Richmond, Virginia office.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership and Staff Development
- Provide leadership and ongoing performance management, including setting goals, offering feedback, and coaching to support team growth, with the potential for direct reports
- Provide coaching and mentorship to the project team through one-on-one check-in meetings and various project debriefs to recognize achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned
- Help strengthen bridge engineering staff to support continued growth of the Richmond, Virginia office
Project Management
- Provide technical and structural engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from preliminary through final design and construction
- Coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team to ensure delivery of a high-quality outcome, including development of construction plans and associated submittal documents
- Develop project specific plans, including project management plans and quality management plans
- Identify and manage subconsultants
- Collaborate with disciplines and subconsultants to develop a risk-averse project scope and fee
- Manage project(s) in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget
- Create and maintain project schedules
- Monitor and execute project progress, including identifying and mitigating risks, developing extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
- Prepare progress reports and review invoices
Business Development and Client Relations
- Assist Section Heads, Office Leaders, and Practice Leaders with the marketing process, including SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews
- Build relationships with client(s) to understand preferences and requirements to set-up and execute a quality project
- Communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and lead project status presentations
- Participate in office's project financial status meetings
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities- Perform other related duties as assigned
Compensation for this position is $65.00. - $90.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Required Experience- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus in structural engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
- 10+ years of bridge and structural design experience
- PE License
- Strong Communication Skills
- Strong Presentation Skills
Preferred Experience- Master's degree in civil engineering with a focus in structural engineering
- Experience working with VDOT, and Virginia localities and agencies
- Experience with multiple project delivery methods (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3)
- Experience managing multidiscipline project teams
Working ConditionsWork is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
