Responsibilities, Requirements, and Total RewardsWhat You'll Be DoingAs a valuable part of our
Transportation Bridge Team, a
Project Manager 1 will manage the design and delivery of practical, cost-effective bridge solutions that improve safety and mobility throughout the region with responsibilities such as:
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of municipal bridge projects across Connecticut, including small- to mid-scale bridges, culverts, pedestrian bridges, and rehabilitations
- Serve as the primary liaison with municipal clients, ensuring clear communication, responsiveness, and trusted partnership throughout project delivery
- Supervise the preparation of design documents including structural analyses, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with CTDOT and local standards
- Work closely with roadway, drainage, environmental, and geotechnical teams to ensure coordinated project solutions
- Oversee and support local and state permitting processes, including Inland Wetlands, Flood Management, and CTDEEP reviews
- Provide technical support during construction, including shop drawing reviews, field visits, and contractor coordination
- Mentor junior engineers, support staff development, and foster a collaborative, problem-solving work environment
- Contribute to proposal writing, scope and fee development, and client interviews to help grow our municipal bridge portfolio
What You'll Need- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required with the ability to obtain a Connecticut licensure through reciprocity
- 10+ years of experience in bridge design, project delivery, and client coordination
- Strong working knowledge of CTDOT bridge and structural standards, AASHTO LRFD and applicable permitting and regulatory requirements
- Proven track record managing bridge projects for municipal clients, including rehabilitations and replacements
- Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., MIDAS, RISA, STAAD, LARSA) and CAD tools (e.g., MicroStation)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage client relationships and technical teams effectively
- Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality deliverables
Preferred Requirements- Master's degree in Structural Engineering
- Experience with Federal and State funding programs such as LOTCIP, STP, and the CTDOT Local Bridge Program
- Working knowledge of environmental and permitting regulations specific to Connecticut
- Experience with construction phase services and field problem-solving
- Active involvement in professional organizations such as ASCE and/or CSCE
