Full Job Description
Clark Nexsen is seeking a motivated and experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our growing bridge safety inspection practice. This role involves leading bridge inspection teams, performing in-depth structural condition assessments, and preparing thorough inspection reports compliant with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bridge inspection, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. Responsible for leading the engineering design for tasks or sub-tasks in a specialized discipline by using basic project management and advanced knowledge of general engineering principles. Coordinates with design and other project engineers to efficiently complete project goals delivered on schedule, budget, and of quality. Compensation for this position is $85,000.00 - $140,000.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 3 Supporting overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for respective discipline, including, developing hours estimates, scope, etc. 3 Provide design status updates to the Project Manager. 3 Track the budgets of discipline task(s). 3 Oversee sub-tasks within their respective discipline for a project. 3 Executing quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for project. 3 Delegate project tasks to project team members. 3 Coaching/mentoring design staff through the design process. 3 Provide consultative services to the client(s), including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and appropriate solutions to meet their expectations. 3 Collaborate and manage project sub-consultants and other internal disciplines 3 Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals 3 Perform alternative studies, evaluate impacts, develop and finalize reports for client. 3 Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. 3 Design projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools. 3 Perform or check design computations 3 Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates 3 Coordinate with internal team members to ensure alignment and project completion by the defined deadline and established quality. 3 Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department 3 (If Manages Others) Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team. Nonessential functions and responsibilities: 3 Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills 3 NCEES Record to facilitate licensure through reciprocity is desirable 3 Active participation in NSPE, ASCE, or other related professional organizations is desirable 3 Ability to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management 3 Ability to prepare effective and concise documents and correspondence 3 Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups 3 Have a client-oriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services 3 Be dedicated to his or her professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole 3 Be dedicated to the advancement of the engineering profession 3 Travel an average of 50% of the time 3 Work may involve times outside normal working hours (nighttime) and on weekends 3 Work outdoors with varying terrain and all types of weather 3 Stand, walk, and climb for 8+ hours a day 3 Be able to lift 50-60 lbs and operate bridge safety inspection equipment 3 Be able to work at heights, over water, and in confined spaces 3 Possess a valid driver's license 3 Be able to pass a VDOT background check Required Experience 3 Engineer-in-Training (EIT): 2+ years of inspection experience OR 3 Non-degree candidates: 5+ years of bridge inspection experience OR 3 Professional Engineer (PE): 6 months to 10+ years of bridge inspection experience 3 Bachelor's Degree from an ABET-accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines: 3 Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) 3 Civil and Environmental Engineering (structural emphasis) 3 Civil Engineering Technology (structural emphasis) Qualifications preferred: 3 Experience working with local clients at the county and state level 3 Professional Engineer License 3 Successful completion of NHI Course #130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges or NHI Course #130056 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers 3 Successful completion of NHI Course #130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training as per NBIS requirements 3 Successful completion of NHI Course #130078 Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM), and NHI Course #130087 Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures is desirable 3 Knowledge and familiarity of the National Bridge Inspection Standards, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Element Inspection, and the Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual 3 Working familiarity with analysis, design, and production software including but not limited to Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Bluebeam Revu, and additional web-based software for data entry, AASHTOWareBrR, and MicroStation, to a point of being able to understand the capabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software 3 Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) training Types 1, 2, and 3 is desirable 3 Prior experience on VDOT and/or Federal bridge inspection projects is desirable Working Conditions At JMT, we prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. JMT offers a hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties. While most of our work is desk-based, there may be times when standing, walking, bending and lifting of minimal weight are required.
