Full Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Bridge Inspection Department Manager to manage the Bridge Inspection Group in the New York Metro area. This individual will provide technical, operational, and strategic leadership for the Group and will be responsible for managing bridge inspection programs, managing bridge inspection projects, maintaining client relationships, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, and overseeing budgets and invoicing.
The role combines technical expertise with business development and department management responsibilities which include:
• Lead and manage the Bridge Inspection Department, including Team Leaders (TLs), Assistant Team Leaders (ATLs), and support staff.
• Manage multiple bridge inspection contracts simultaneously.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients.
• Monitor budgets, project costs, and profitability.
• Foster a culture centered on safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Maintain exceptional quality standards.
• Review and approve inspection reports and load ratings.
• Provide engineering guidance regarding structural deficiencies and repair recommendations.
• Identify opportunities for department growth and new business.
• Contribute to marketing and proposal preparation, including development of technical proposals.
• Ensure inspections comply with the requirement of:
• NYSDOT, PANYNJ, MTA-B&T, other clients
• National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS)
• FHWA requirements
• AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus 10 Years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• NY Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• Valid U.S. Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 15 plus years of bridge inspection experience.
• 8 plus years as a Team Leader.
• 5 plus years supervising bridge inspection teams.
• Excellent leadership and team-building abilities.
• Strong project management skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Budget management experience.
• Proposal writing and business development experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and Bridge inspection software platforms.
