Full Job Description
Yardzen is hiring a hands-on Brand Marketing Manager to help grow brand awareness, tell our stories, and create new ways for homeowners and brands, alike, to discover and engage with Yardzen. Yardzen aspires to be a lifestyle brand, with this role leading the activities through the conversion cycle resulting in a passionate community of Yardzen lovers. This role is among the most important to the company as it sits at the core of our brand and mission.

This is a generalist role, on purpose. You'll devise a communications strategy on Monday, partner with a creator for content on Tuesday, launch a referral program on Wednesday, execute an experiential pop up on Thursday, and give a contractor partner directions about how to best photograph a Yardzen yard they're building on Friday. You'll own the programs you build, including their results.

This role requires a brand marketing athlete. You'll do lots of things in this role, but first and foremost you'll be a modern storyteller. Every single Yardzen client has a story. It's through telling those stories individually and at scale that Yardzen's brand really comes alive.

This role reports into the Marketing Director.

What you'll do:

Brand Communications & Campaigns
  • Define communications priorities and gain executive alignment on strategy and content approach that build the Yardzen brand with prospective clients.
  • Design, launch, and own campaigns that focus on building brand awareness and shaping a positive perception of Yardzen.
  • Nail consistent messaging and brand voice across every mention of Yardzen you own
  • Identify creative opportunities to bring the Yardzen brand to life and reach new audiences across channels and activities.
  • Foster and facilitate community around the Yardzen brand among past clients that can positively affect current/future clients, and lead to lifestyle brand status.
  • Build project plans, coordinate stakeholders, and keep initiatives moving from idea through launch.

Organic Growth & Content
  • Shape organic initiatives that introduce Yardzen (discovery) and entice the right people to engage with our brand and product platform.
  • Leverage expertise in key social platforms (Instagram, Pinterest) to tell compelling brand stories that engage potential clients (and the Yardzen community).
  • Design programs that make it easier for Yardzen clients to share their yard transformations, and thus share Yardzen.
  • Own the Yardzen Ambassador Program for creators and Yardzen champions, alike, to earn commission.

Brand Collaborations & Activations
  • Discover and engage with the brands that share our ethos and complement our mission for potential partnerships to engage audience segments with the Yardzen brand.
  • Manage the day-to-day marketing execution of collaborations, including messaging, creative assets, timelines, and promotion (in close collaboration with the Business Partnerships team).
  • Track and report on partnership activation performance, share learnings, and evolve strategies accordingly.

Public Relations & Storytelling
  • Partner with the Director in owning the Yardzen PR strategy and activation (note, the Founder / CEO plays a big role here).
  • Become expert on Yardzen's data and trends we're seeing across our platform and package them as stories, richly valuable to the publications our clients read.
  • Form relationships with the right journalists, editors, creators, brand influencers and media properties to further the Yardzen leadership voice in the landscape market.
  • American Firewise Project, our effort to help homeowners in fire-vulnerable areas build yards that are both beautiful and defensible, starting with the five feet closest to the house.

About you:

  • You have 5+ years of experience across brand marketing, communications, content, PR or integrated marketing.
  • You're a social media maven adept at creating content strategy, leading development of the content, and understands how social platforms work.
  • You're a strong writer and editor. You've been complimented on your writing skills your whole life.
  • Bonus if you have experience in a premiere PR firm working on successful D2C brands.
  • You're a versatile generalist who's excited to work across different types of marketing initiatives.
  • You're self motivated and are inclined to run, not walk. We move fast!
  • You can write a killer pitch and show us a few that have resulted in excellent stories.
  • You're AI-confident but not reliant. Claude has nothing on your writing skills.
  • You're a real teammate, with goodness and grit. You're proactive, resourceful, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with lots of ambiguity.
  • You are based in the Bay Area and available to support occasional in-person opportunities - such as client photo shoots, community events, and brand activations - in Yardzen's largest client market.

What we offer:

  • Remote work, always: We're a remote-first company
  • Full coverage for you: 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Competitive compensation: Salary that matches your skills and experience
  • Support for growing families: 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • Monthly perks: Wellness, cell phone, and internet stipends to keep you connected and cared for

$100,000 - $120,000 a year

Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's relevant experience, skills, qualifications, education, and geographic location.
