DescriptionGPI is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial leader to lead our 230-person Long Island office in Melville, NY. As a key member of the leadership team, the successful candidate will oversee all aspects of Long Island and New York City regional operations, including full P&L responsibility, operations and project management, business development, client relationships, and staff leadership. The office serves a diverse client base, including public agencies, private entities, counties, towns, and villages, with core services that include:
- Construction management and inspection
- Structural/Bridge design and inspection
- Transportation planning and design
- Design-Build
- Landscape Architecture
- BIM/VDC Services
- Visualization/Modeling Services
- Civil, Roadway/highway, and Traffic design
- Environmental/Water resources engineering
The GPI Branch Manager role requires strong leadership skills, decision-making capability, communication skills, and an understanding of overall consulting engineering business operations and practices. Beyond the responsibilities to the Branch, the Branch Manager is also expected to embody GPI's Mission that "Together, we create the infrastructure people need most."
Responsibilities:- Build, grow, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, designers, inspectors, and support staff through the attraction, recruitment, retention, and inclusion of staff within the Branch
- Ensure quality management procedures are in place and adhered to within the Branch
- Actively engage in client relationships through effective communication, customer service, and responsiveness to client needs with responsibility for project and service delivery
- Lead business development and marketing efforts, providing technical and marketing professionals leadership. Identify business development opportunities in the region, build relationships with prospective clients, and pursue new projects and contracts. Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the Branch by expanding the client base, services provided, and geographic reach
- Create and leverage relationships across GPI's practices and geographies to ensure service delivery and development of innovative solutions to client needs. Collaborate with other managers and leadership team members to support company-wide initiatives and goals
- Establish a yearly operating budget and drive the financial performance of the Branch
- Evaluate potential projects, clients, and contracts to assess and manage risk
- Develop and implement strategic plans for branch operations, including annual goals and objectives for revenue growth, client satisfaction, and employee engagement
- Supported by 7 Directors, manage and oversee all project activities within the branch, including project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures
Qualifications:- Experience working within the designated region is highly preferred
- B.S. Degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering preferred. M.S. or advanced business degree a plus
- NY Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience as a company officer is preferred
- 20+ years of progressively established experience in the engineering industry with an emphasis on staff, project, client, contract, and quality management
- Proven track record of success in project management, business development, and client relations
- Experience recruiting, hiring, and supervising staff and effectively managing sensitive personnel matters
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a large, diverse, multi-located team to achieve results
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills
- Knowledge of local engineering regulations, standards, and practices
- Strong business acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and effective financial management
Requirements- Ability to work from a branch office location 5 days per week
- Ability to travel, including routine in-person meetings and visits within the region
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
