Job Description

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) the Board Liaison works directly with the Island Health Board Chair and all Board Directors and is accountable for managing all aspects of Board operations, coordinating reporting and completing senior level administrative functions for the Board and its Committees. In addition, this position provides confidential coordination and executive support to the Board Chair. This position reviews, issues and prepares reports for the Board such as briefing notes, issue papers and updates for the President and CEO in support of selected Board committees, to support policy development and effective Board governance. The Board Liaison assesses complex, multifaceted issues, engages internal and external stakeholders and develops recommendations; communicates recommendations, risks and alternatives.

The Board Liaison provides support to the Board Chair and Committee Chairs in accordance with committee terms of reference, providing support to the Board and Committee chairs to ensure all committee meetings and functions are conducted with efficiency and effectiveness. This position is responsible for preparing Board Committee agendas, resolutions, effectively scheduling and managing engagement activities for the Chair and Board of Directors and for developing related reports, presentations and correspondence to ensure the governance-related functions of the Board are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree with seven (7) years' related experience including experience as a Chartered Secretary, Paralegal with Corporate Secretarial or Robert's Rules of Order expertise working in a large complex organization, preferably in health care, corporate governance or the public sector.

  • Advanced knowledge of governance, legislative framework and policy development.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and persuade others.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective relationships with community leaders, government representatives and others, enhancing trust and reputation in both an advocacy and collaborative manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to assess and establish priorities, meet deadlines, coordinate workflow and work under tight timelines and changing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to use spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software to create, modify and format various documents, communiques, reports and presentations in business vocabulary to effectively represent the Board and the organization to external parties.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, tact, a good sense of humour and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to take initiative to resolve problems and follow-up on matters of significance to the organization under minimal direction.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
  • Ability to remain calm, alert and high functioning under stressful situations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The salary range for this position is $76,111 (min) to $95,138 (midpoint) to $109,409 (max) per annum (based on 1 FTE). Salary placement is between min and midpoint, based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity
