HELIX Environmental Planning (HELIX) is growing in Northern California, and we're seeking a talented mid-level Biologist to join our Biology team. This Biologist role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in the field, enjoys technical writing, and wants to play a meaningful role in environmental stewardship across diverse projects. A Day in the Life of a Biologist

As a Biologist with HELIX, your days will be dynamic-one day conducting aquatic resource mapping or special-status species surveys, another day drafting biological technical reports or regulatory permit applications. On another day you could be helping establish a mitigation preserve with special-status species (e.g., California tiger salamander, vernal pool fairy shrimp). The Biologist works both independently and collaboratively, balancing fieldwork, data analysis, and report writing while contributing to project success. The Biologist will have the opportunity to be mentored by a principal biologist who specializes in regulatory permitting and mitigation establishment. The opportunity to grow is endless.

Compensation: $37-$45 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, or related environmental science
  • 5+ years of professional biology experience, including 2+ years in Northern California
  • Experience with environmental consulting and independent biological assessments

Preferred Requirements
  • Floristic and special-status species survey experience in Northern California
  • Proficiency with the Jepson Manual and taxonomic keys
  • Wetland delineation and restoration experience
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ISA Arborist, Wetland certifications)
  • Agency coordination and field team leadership experience


Salary Description

Range of $37 to $45 hourly
