Full Job Description
The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for full-time, junior level Biologist based in our Oakland, CA office.

Position Summary

The selected candidate will provide environmental planning, sampling, oversight, and monitoring during wetlands habitat restoration or other construction projects. Specific activities may include:
• Supporting wetland habitat restoration planning, implementation, and monitoring.
• Assisting with CEQA/NEPA documentation, permit applications, and biological technical reports.
• Conducting biological reconnaissance and habitat assessments. Performing general and focused surveys for special-status plants and wildlife.
• Recording wetland indicators involving vegetation, hydric soils, and hydrology. Collecting field data using GPS, ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, or similar applications.
• Preparing field notes, photographs, maps, data tables, and technical memoranda.
• Supporting biological monitoring during construction, restoration, and maintenance.

• Possess or have strong desire to learn and implement complex ecological monitoring and reporting techniques and site characterization studies.
• Perform field work in uneven terrain or marsh environments.
• Support permit applications and monitoring associated with wetlands restoration and marsh enhancement projects.

Required Qualifications (Required)
• Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field and 1-5 years of professional experience; OR Master's degree in Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field and 1-2 years of professional experience.
• One year, minimum, of experience
• Basic knowledge of biological resources such as bird, plant, and/or wildlife species of California and San Francisco Estuary.
• Ability to use field data tablets and GIS instruments.

Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to identify species a plus.
• Knowledge of local plant, and/or wildlife species and their habitat requirements.
• Experience with wetland restoration projects.
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus.
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Experience using computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs is preferred.

Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)
• This position is primarily office work, however, occasionally (35%) you will need to perform fieldwork within California and the West Coast.

• Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and safe driving record is required.

Additional Information (Required)
• Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
• Overtime requirements: Overtime may be required during field work activities
• Night/weekend requirements: periodic travel with overnight accommodations
• Work locations: Our Oakland, CA office or hybrid working at home and the Oakland, CA office.
• Travel requirements: 35%
• This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion

The Salary Range for this position is $70,500 - $100,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
