What You Will Do:

We are looking for a Biologist to provide support services to NIH NCI/CCR. This position is a full-time position located in Bethesda, Maryland.

  • Devise highly specialized research procedures by applying knowledge of advanced research techniques and equipment.
  • Design research studies by selecting appropriate methodology and procedures to meet experimental objectives.
  • Search scientific literature for new methods and procedures for application and adaptation in experiments.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and ensure research standards are upheld.
  • Design and execute research projects involving myeloid cell differentiation, characterization, and function (e.g., macrophages, dendritic cells, monocytes, neutrophils).
  • Perform laboratory techniques including flow cytometry, cell sorting, DNA/RNA isolation, gene expression analysis, RNA sequencing, and microbiome analysis.
  • Conduct cell culture and support animal models for cancer and infectious disease research.
  • Assist in basic laboratory experiments, maintain samples, supplies, and equipment, and learn new techniques.
  • Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments and coordinate analysis and interpretation of experimental data.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for scientific meetings and publications.
  • Train laboratory staff on specialized procedures and equipment usage.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, monitor supplies, and ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Enforce safe laboratory practices and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate maintenance activities.

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree in Biology or a related field.
  • A minimum of TEN (10) years of experience in an immunology-related field.
  • Strong experience with immunology research, including mouse models for cancer, inflammation, and infectious diseases.
  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques including RNA sequencing, RT-qPCR, and library preparation.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, cell isolation, and immune population analysis.
  • Familiarity with small RNA profiling, ChIP-Seq technology, and data analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • PhD in Biology, Life Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Experience with bioinformatics and statistical software tools.
  • Experience using FlowJo, GraphPad, and QuPath software.
  • Familiarity with imaging hardware and experimental imaging software.
  • Experience working with toxoplasma gondii infection models and cyst isolation techniques.
  • Prior experience supporting multi-disciplinary research teams in a federal or academic laboratory setting.

The annual salary range for this position is $113,000.00-$188,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
