About the opportunity

Join QIAGEN's Bioinformatics team and contribute to the development of innovative genomic technologies that support molecular diagnostics and life science products. In this role, you will combine expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular assay design, and computational biology to develop robust bioinformatics solutions that advance scientific discovery and improve healthcare outcomes worldwide. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will partner with scientists, software engineers, assay developers, and cross-functional teams to transform complex biological data into impactful products and actionable insights.

Your tasks include
  • Develop, optimize, validate, and maintain bioinformatics workflows and pipelines for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
  • Analyze large-scale genomic and sequencing datasets to generate scientific insights that support product innovation and development.
  • Design and optimize PCR and digital PCR (dPCR) assays using sequence analysis tools and bioinformatics methodologies.
  • Create computational approaches for primer and probe design, target selection, and assay performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate closely with molecular biologists, assay developers, software engineers, and product development teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Evaluate emerging bioinformatics technologies, algorithms, AI/ML approaches, and software tools to improve analytical performance and efficiency.
  • Document methods, validation activities, and scientific findings in accordance with quality standards and communicate results to internal stakeholders.

Your profile
  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 1-3 years of relevant academic or industry experience; PhD preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with NGS data analysis and familiarity with common genomic file formats such as FASTQ, BAM/CRAM, and VCF.
  • Experience with PCR and/or digital PCR (dPCR) assay design, including primer and probe design principles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar scripting languages, with experience working in Linux/Unix environments.
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods applied to biological or genomic data and familiarity with frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • Understanding of molecular biology, genomics, nucleic acid chemistry, and statistical analysis techniques relevant to bioinformatics applications.
  • Experience with Git, software development best practices, and production-quality bioinformatics pipelines; experience in a regulated biotechnology, diagnostics, or pharmaceutical environment is considered an advantage.
