The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $75,000 - $115,000.
Job OverviewThe Auto Claims Technical Specialist is a senior technical resource responsible for providing advanced claims expertise, coaching, quality support, and technical leadership across Auto Claims operations.
This role supports Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Total Loss, and Quebec teams by driving consistency in claims handling, identifying training opportunities, supporting complex claims, and partnering with key stakeholders to improve operational excellence and member outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advanced technical claims expertise and guidance across Auto Claims operations, supporting Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Total Loss, and Quebec teams.
- Act as a national subject matter expert, promoting consistent claims handling practices, technical standards, and process execution across all regions.
- Identify training opportunities, knowledge gaps, and emerging trends, and partner with leadership and Training Specialists to develop and deliver targeted learning solutions.
- Serve as a bilingual (English/French) resource supporting Quebec operations, including technical guidance, coaching, process alignment, and support for regional requirements.
- Support Small Claims Court matters by assisting with file preparation, attending proceedings as required, and providing guidance to leaders and adjusters.
- Collaborate with Legal Services and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to support complex claims, identify trends, share best practices, and improve claim outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between Claims and Underwriting, facilitating collaboration on coverage issues, risk trends, policy interpretation, underwriting feedback, and opportunities to enhance the member experience.
- Analyze claims, legal, SIU, and operational trends and provide recommendations for coaching, training, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in quality reviews, calibration sessions, audits, and process improvement initiatives to promote operational excellence and consistency.
- Support national projects, change initiatives, and operational enhancements, including process standardization, workflow optimization, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Mentor and coach adjusters and leaders, providing technical direction and support on complex, litigated, or escalated claims.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor and escalation resource for complex claims, coverage interpretation, SIU matters, legal issues, and underwriting-related concerns.
Qualifications- 5+ years of progressive Auto Claims experience, including complex claims handling, investigations, coverage analysis, negotiation, and claim resolution.
- Advanced technical expertise in Auto Claims with demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and influence claims professionals and leaders.
- Bilingual (English/French).
- AMF Claims Adjuster Licence preferred or willingness and ability to obtain and maintain licensing requirements.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred or working toward completion.
- Experience supporting Quebec claims operations and knowledge of Quebec regulatory requirements is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Small Claims Court processes, litigation management, and claims best practices.
- Experience collaborating with Underwriting, Legal Services, SIU, Training, and Operational Leadership teams.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, communication, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify trends, assess training needs, and develop solutions that improve technical capability, consistency, and operational performance.
- Proven ability to lead through influence, support change initiatives, and drive continuous improvement within a national claims environment.
