JOB TITLE: Behavior Consultant

CLASSIFICATION: Professional

TERMS:

This position is a 225 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Personal business days, holidays and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:

Provides leadership and support for behavioral intervention strategies and positive behavior support systems to local school districts. This position provides consultation for students with intensive behavior needs, including those without IEPs. She/he evaluates county-wide needs in the area of behavioral support and classroom management, providing a variety of targeted resources, side-by-side coaching, and professional learning to staff to enhance student engagement and classroom success and reduce more restrictive placements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide side-by-side coaching, in-classroom support, and modeling for teachers to implement proactive behavior prevention strategies and universal classroom management techniques.
  2. Guide and support school staff through the general education Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) processes.
  3. Provide specialized consultation for students who do not currently have an IEP but exhibit intensive behavior needs.
  4. Partners with the Special Education Behavior Consultants to serve teams supporting students with intensive behaviors as needed.
  5. Collaborate with the MTSS team to build a proactive educator support framework, delivering Tier 2 and 3 behavioral supports to general education students to reduce special education referrals and prevent restrictive placements.
  6. Coordinate and facilitate county-wide parent training programs and resource offerings, such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families (TCIF), to align behavioral supports between home and school.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree or higher in special education, School Social Work or School Psychology
  2. Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate or SSW/School Psychologist licensure
  3. A minimum of five (5) years experience within the educational setting
  4. Experience in the area of behavior support
  5. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  6. Enthusiastic, innovative, independently motivated and capable of meeting challenges and deadlines
  7. Possession of solid interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal skills
  8. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience working within various educational programs, projects and organizations
  2. Knowledgeable about data sources and experience in data use protocols to inform practice
  3. Specialized training focused on research-based and culturally-responsive practices
