Azure Administrator

About the Role

The Azure Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of KBR's Microsoft Azure environment. This role supports both infrastructure and platform services, ensuring cloud resources are deployed, managed, and optimized in alignment with established governance, security, and operational standards.

The ideal candidate is a motivated cloud professional who enjoys Azure administration, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous learning. Working closely with Cloud Architects, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Application teams, this individual will help maintain a secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud platform while supporting cloud adoption and operational excellence initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Administration & Operations
  • Administer and support Azure subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, and cloud resources.
  • Support onboarding of new workloads into Azure following approved architecture, security, and governance standards.
  • Deploy, configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Azure IaaS and PaaS services.
  • Perform routine health checks, maintenance activities, and operational support tasks.
  • Monitor cloud environments and respond to alerts, incidents, and service disruptions.
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
  • Assist with patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of Azure resources.
  • Support operational readiness and transition of new Azure services into production support.

PaaS Administration & Support
  • Support and maintain Azure-hosted applications and cloud-native services.
  • Partner with application teams to deploy, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot Azure workloads.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, backup, and recovery solutions for Azure platform services.
  • Ensure Azure services are deployed and managed in accordance with approved architecture and operational standards.

Governance, Security & Compliance
  • Support implementation and maintenance of Azure Policy, Management Groups, RBAC controls, and resource governance standards.
  • Monitor cloud environments for compliance with organizational security and operational requirements.
  • Assist with remediation of findings identified through vulnerability assessments, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and security reviews.
  • Support audit, compliance, and security assessment activities.
  • Promote adoption of Azure security and governance best practices.

Azure Well-Architected Framework
  • Support operational practices aligned with Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework principles, including reliability, security, operational excellence, performance efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Participate in environment reviews and implementation of recommendations that improve platform maturity and operational effectiveness.

Automation & Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions utilizing PowerShell, Azure CLI, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
  • Support deployment automation, operational efficiency initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, and operational support processes.

Cost Management & Optimization
  • Monitor Azure resource utilization and consumption.
  • Identify and support implementation of cost optimization opportunities.
  • Assist with operational and financial reporting related to cloud resource usage.

Documentation & Standards
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure documentation supports operational readiness, governance requirements, and audit compliance.
  • Promote consistency through adoption of Azure administration standards and best practices.

Support & Collaboration
  • Provide Tier 2 operational support for Azure services and cloud platforms.
  • Participate in incident management, problem management, and root cause analysis activities.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, application, and project teams.
  • Support cloud projects, production deployments, and after-hours maintenance activities when required.


Basic Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • U.S. Citizen required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required by business or government project needs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • 2-4+ years of hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise cloud infrastructure and production workloads.

Azure Administration & Technical Expertise:
  • Experience supporting Azure IaaS and PaaS services.
  • Experience with Azure compute, networking, storage, monitoring, backup, and security services.
  • Experience supporting Azure App Services, Azure SQL Services, Azure Functions, Storage Services, and related Azure platform technologies.
  • Experience utilizing PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar automation tools.
  • Working knowledge of Azure identity, networking, security, governance, and operational support concepts.
  • Experience monitoring and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure and platform services.

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • Familiarity with Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Cost Management, and related governance tools.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform, Azure Bicep, Azure DevOps, GitHub, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform environments.
  • Experience supporting regulated, government, or security-sensitive environments.
  • Experience creating technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.


Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
