Job Description

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Quality is the system senior leader responsible for the day-to-day oversight, execution, and operationalization of the health system's quality strategy. This role translates strategic direction into reliable performance, measurable outcomes, and integrated ways of working across hospitals, ambulatory settings, service lines, and aligned physicians. This role is designed to move quality from a compliance- and project-based function to a strategic, execution-oriented operating system that enables care excellence, reduces variation, supports value-based care, and strengthens the system's ability to perform under complexity and change.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of the system quality organization, ensuring consistent execution of the Inova's quality strategy across the continuum of care.
  • Translate strategic priorities set by the CQSO into operational plans, performance management routines, and execution disciplines.
  • Ensure quality work supports both everyday clinical operations and the development and deployment of care pathways and care models.
  • Partner with service line leaders, clinical operations, and physician leaders to reduce unwarranted variation through standardized, evidence-based care pathways and models.
  • Support the evolution from fragmented "solution shop" approaches to a uniform, integrated system of care for like types of care; Embed quality, safety, patient experience, and stewardship expectations directly into core clinical workflows.
  • Act as a key integrator across hospitals, ambulatory sites, service lines, employed and aligned independent physicians, and system infrastructure; Work in close partnership with nursing, service line leadership, value-based care, analytics, finance, and operations to ensure quality is not an "extracurricular department," but a core enabler of clinical and business goals.
  • Serve as a system quality leader within shared governance structures, including quality councils and clinically integrated network (CIN) or ACO quality committees.
  • Advance quality strategies that support value-based reimbursement, pay-for-performance programs, and risk-based contracts.
  • Partner with finance and value-based care leaders to establish and articulate the financial ROI of quality outcomes, including margin protection and growth.
  • Lead quality-driven efforts in clinical stewardship, unburdening the system of care, and reducing unnecessary cost and complexity; Build system capacity in improvement science, implementation science, complexity science, and care model development.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt (upon hire)
  • 10 years of progressive experience directing and leading performance improvement and data analytics concepts in a dynamic healthcare setting
  • 5 years of management experience

  • Extensive experience leading quality functions across complex, multi-hospital and ambulatory health systems
