Position SummaryOdyssey has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman Avionics Engineer, supporting the Fixed Wing Modification Branch AFLCMC/WIU. This program focuses on modification and sustainment support for SOF/PR and ISR fixed wing and rotarywing aircraft. The branch plans, integrates, modifies, and sustains SOF/PR variants of the C-130J fleet (MC-130J, HC-130J, LC-130J and special mission configurations) to keep platforms modern, survivable, and missionready.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but not limited to:
- Apply DoDD 5000series guidance and AFMC/AFLCMC engineering policies to SOF acquisition engineering activities.
- Support development and analysis of system and subsystem requirements, translating them into design criteria and system specifications.
- Conduct technical planning, system integration analyses, trade studies, and risk assessments across weapon system platforms.
- Assist in developing system performance requirements, integration objectives, and estimates for design, development, and sustainment.
- Review engineering proposals, designs, specifications, and change packages; provide recommendations to optimize cost, schedule, and performance.
- Conduct engineering evaluations supporting airworthiness (MIL-HDBK-516), safety (MIL-STD-882), and Operational Safety, Suitability & Effectiveness (OSS&E).
- Support engineering reviews, design reviews, TIMs, working groups, and program reviews, providing technical input, documentation, and reporting.
- Support systems and avionics engineering across requirements, design, integration, development, modification, test, airworthiness, production, sustainment, deployment, operations, and divestiture.
- Provide expertise in maintenance systems integration, designfortest, diagnostics, and electronic support equipment.
- Coordinate with acquisition organizations, higher headquarters, DoD entities, labs, industry, and universities; support documentation and emerging technology assessments.
- Assist with avionics engineering for design, development, manufacturing, integration, testing, and fielding of airborne weapon systems, embedded computing, software, and maintenance systems.
- Apply systems engineering processes for airworthiness, requirements, software releases, metrics and traceability, allocations, program protection, technical reviews, configuration audits, design analysis, interface integration, and test verification/validation.
- Support reviews, studies, performance requirement development, and avionics systemlevel integration documentation.
- Ensure proper application of systems integration, interface management, test, R&M, accreditation, certification, technology transfer, manufacturing readiness, PESHE, and ESOH requirements.
- Support development, deployment, and sustainment of technical processes ensuring safe operation and maintenance of systems.
- Provide expertise to develop artifacts for systems integration, OSS&E, MIL-HDBK-516 airworthiness, MIL-STD-882 system safety, and lifecycle systems engineering (DAFI 63-1201).
- Support development and sustainment of training systems, including modeling and simulation.
- Maintain understanding of MIL-STD-1553 and RS-232 standards for use in military training systems.
- Maintain understanding of ARINC 610 standards for avionics and software integration within military simulators.

Education and experience:
- Bachelors degree or masters degree in a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program and at least 3 years of relevant experience, 3 of which must be in the DoD;OR 7 years of directly related experienced, 5 of which must be in the DoD.
Technical Skills
- Systems and avionics engineering across requirements, design, integration, test, and airworthiness.
- Application of systems engineering processes, including configuration management, interface integration, and V&V.
- Avionics and embedded systems expertise, including MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, and ARINC 610 implementation.
- Support for technology integration, system safety, and lifecycle processes such as OSS&E, MIL-HDBK-516, and MIL-STD-882.
