Job Description

JMT is seeking a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities in designing and managing commercial, military, and general aviation projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical civil aviation and/or aviation facilities design, task and project management, staff oversight, and project schedules, budgets, and team coordination. Candidate must be well-versed in aviation design and construction standards (FAA minimum, FAA and DoD preferred). The ideal candidate will be a knowledgeable aviation civil engineer with design experience, construction knowledge, and project management skills.

The successful candidate will be expected to effectively oversee and mentor developing staff, provide project status updates to department management, and support coordination with clients and subconsultants. Work assignments may include, but are not limited to, management of small to medium design tasks, management of components of large design projects, technical design of engineering tasks. Project types include airport runway, taxiway and apron design ds well as facility projects such as Terminal building development, facilities repair and/or retrofit projects. Tasks typically include contract drawing development, design and construction schedule development, construction cost estimating, technical specification development, and meeting coordination (internal and external stakeholders).

Assignments will be performed through a working knowledge of application design criteria, regulatory requirements, and standards and processes. The candidate will be expected to manage multiple design assignments, including oversight and direction of design staff and coordination with clients and subconsultants; support the development of task/project scopes of work and personnel hour estimates, support the development and maintenance of project schedules and budgets; design and review critical design elements, and incorporating feedback and comments from design reviews.

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D surface model design and analysis
  • Construction Cost Estimates
  • Construction Quantity Take-offs
  • Airfield Civil Engineering Contract Document Development (Plans, Specifications, and Estimates)
  • Construction Safety and Phasing Plan Development
  • Completion and Filing of Form 7460s
  • Project Meeting Coordination (Organize and Run Meetings)
  • Maintain current department organizational and quality control standards and update as and where necessary.
  • Project Scheduling, Budgeting, and Staffing


Required Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D surface modeling
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, Engineering Briefs, and Orders
  • Working knowledge of DoD Unified Facilities Criteria preferred
  • Detailed Construction Costs Estimating
  • Technical Specification Writing
  • Working knowledge of Project Management skills (Schedules, budgets, etc.)
  • Proficient in MS Office Software (Microsoft Project experience preferred)


Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program
  • Professional Engineer License or equivalent
  • 6-10 years' experience in aviation airfield design or construction management/construction inspection for commercial hub airports (or active multi-runway military installations)
  • Task management experience
  • Supervisory role on project task experience preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
