Automotive Systems Engineer - Embedded Software & Feature Development

Overview

We are seeking a highly technical Automotive Systems Engineer to lead the definition, architecture, and development of next-generation vehicle features from concept through production. This role focuses on early-stage systems engineering and feature development rather than software testing or validation.

The successful candidate will translate customer and business needs into system requirements, functional specifications, logical architectures, and software implementation requirements while collaborating with software, electrical, mechanical, and vehicle integration teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and develop new vehicle features and system architectures.
  • Translate customer and business needs into engineering and functional requirements.
  • Develop logical system architectures for software implementation.
  • Create engineering documentation including:
    • System Boundary Diagrams
    • Functional Block Diagrams
    • DFMEAs
    • Verification plans
    • Requirements traceability
  • Develop feature and functional specifications for software implementation.
  • Create and interpret network topologies, wiring schematics, and power distribution architectures.
  • Derive verification test cases from engineering requirements.
  • Perform Functional Safety and Cybersecurity impact assessments related to design changes.
  • Support feature development from concept through production launch.
  • Lead technical trade-off discussions across software, electrical, mechanical, vehicle integration, and supplier teams.
  • Drive engineering decisions that support product and system design.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of Automotive Systems Engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of Software Engineering experience supporting complex embedded systems.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of the Systems Engineering V-Model.
  • Experience defining vehicle features and system architectures.
  • Experience writing engineering, functional, and implementation requirements.
  • Experience creating DFMEAs, System Boundary Diagrams, verification plans, and engineering quality documentation.
  • Experience developing vehicle features from concept through production.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems, including networking, wiring, power distribution, body systems, chassis systems, and CAN communication.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple engineering organizations to resolve complex technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of Automotive Systems Engineering experience.
  • Experience leading complete feature development throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience performing Functional Safety and Cybersecurity assessments.
  • Experience supporting software implementation through detailed functional specifications.
  • Electrical D&R experience.
  • Strong systems thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and technical trade-off discussions.
  • Experience progressing customer use cases through architecture, design, development, testing, and production integration.
