About the JobWe are looking for a Software Engineer with a focus in Manufacturing to join our rapidly growing team in Costa Mesa. In this role you will be responsible for building and maintaining software for current and next generation Sentry Tower systems. You will be responsible for developing automated test suites and user-friendly interfaces to streamline hardware verification and issue diagnosis for non-technical users. You will implement robust error-capturing mechanisms that provide actionable insights for efficient troubleshooting and quality assurance.
Every tower we ship passes through this software. It is what proves a unit works before it leaves the floor, which makes it the last chance to catch a defect while the hardware is still in reach and the fix costs an hour instead of a trip to a site. A test that passes when it should not have is the most expensive kind of bug we have, because it ships.
The honest version: your users are technicians on a production floor, not engineers, and their time is the constraint. That means a lot of the work is unglamorous by design: clear error messages, tooling that fails in an obvious way, and diagnostics a person can follow at 6am without calling you. You will also be pulled into whatever is blocking the line, which does not wait for your sprint. The upside is a feedback loop most software engineers never get, since the people using what you built are in the same building and will tell you within a day.

WHAT YOU'LL DO- Develop automated test suites to verify hardware functionality and performance.
- Create user-friendly interfaces to facilitate issue diagnosis for non-technical users.
- Implement robust error-capturing mechanisms to provide actionable insights.
- Collaborate with hardware and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of testing tools.
- Work directly with the technicians and manufacturing engineers who use your tooling every shift, and treat their time as the thing you are optimizing.
- Continuously improve testing frameworks to enhance efficiency and reliability.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience building test automation, instrumentation, or tooling for hardware, and comfort working on a bench with the hardware in front of you.
- Proficiency in Python for test and tooling work, plus 2+ years in Rust or C++ to work in the services under test.
- Solid grasp of networking principles, including CAN and Ethernet protocols, along with expertise in hardware interfacing, diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, CANoe), and cybersecurity principles as they pertain to secure and reliable sensor data transmission.
- Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in areas/fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
- US person status required, with eligibility to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
