Robotics Automation Engineer

Overview / Summary

The Automation Engineer will lead the development, integration, standardization, and deployment of industrial robotic systems supporting manufacturing operations. This role will work across manufacturing engineering, controls, production, suppliers, and advanced technology teams to develop scalable robotic solutions that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, flexibility, and maintainability.

The role will also support the development of next-generation robotics standards and reusable robot templates while advancing digital manufacturing, data integration, simulation, and Industry 4.0 capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, integrate, standardize, and deploy industrial robotic systems supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Develop scalable robotic solutions focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, flexibility, and maintainability.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering, controls, production, suppliers, and system integrators.
  • Support the development of robotics standards and reusable robot templates.
  • Advance digital manufacturing, data integration, simulation, and Industry 4.0 capabilities.
  • Program, integrate, commission, and troubleshoot industrial robots.
  • Integrate robots with PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing automation and controls systems.
  • Work with industrial networking and communication protocols.
  • Read and interpret electrical, controls, mechanical, and automation system documentation.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with industrial robotic systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience programming, integrating, commissioning, or troubleshooting industrial robots.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing automation and controls systems.
  • Experience integrating robots with PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, controls, mechanical, and automation system documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical priorities and drive issues to resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with manufacturing plants, engineering teams, suppliers, and system integrators.
  • Experience with robotics and PLC/CNC systems.

  • Advanced experience with FANUC robotic systems.
  • Experience with ABB robotic systems.
  • Experience with Universal Robots/collaborative robotics.
  • FANUC and ABB robotic systems certification.
  • Experience developing standardized robot programs, templates, libraries, or reusable automation architectures.
  • Experience with robot simulation and offline programming tools.
  • Experience with robotic vision and guidance systems.
  • Understanding of functional safety and robotic cell safety concepts.
  • Knowledge of industrial PLC platforms and PLC-to-robot integration.
  • Understanding of industrial Ethernet and manufacturing network architectures.
  • Experience integrating robotics with manufacturing execution, monitoring, or data-collection systems.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies, including IIoT, edge computing, data collection and analytics, AI/ML, machine vision, digital twins, and virtual commissioning.
  • Programming or scripting experience used to support automation and engineering applications.
  • Knowledge of software development principles, data structures, APIs, and system integration.
  • Experience with cloud-connected manufacturing or industrial data platforms.
  • Understanding of industrial engineering concepts, including cycle-time analysis, constraint analysis, throughput, and productivity improvement.
  • Experience working with automation OEMs, robot manufacturers, and system integrators.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering applications.
