Responsibilities

  • Promote safety by identifying and addressing at-risk behaviors and conditions.
  • Read, update, and maintain P&IDs, I/O drawings, and procedural documents for asset operation.
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues in collaboration with production and facility teams.
  • Upgrade and maintain process control computers and networks in accordance with IT/OT structure.
  • Manage the H&V Change process for control and safety policies in equipment implementation.
  • Oversee capital projects involving modifications to DCS/QCS controls.
  • Provide after-hours support for process control issues alongside the maintenance team.
  • Train and develop the Electrical & Instrumentation group as needed.

Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Automation & Controls Engineer is responsible for working as a team member to manage all process control-related equipment for the machines and the facility. He/she will provide support to the operating and maintenance departments to reduce downtime, minimize costs and optimize operation. This position also supports the quality control equipment and interacts with all departments within the mill.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To understand and actively promote safety by identifying and correcting at-risk behaviors and conditions to contribute to the overall goal of zero safety incidents.
  • Read, understand and update the piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), I/O drawings, and procedural documentation for maintaining and operating all assets.
  • Support the production and facility areas in troubleshooting process and/or equipment related issues.
  • Upgrade & maintain the process control computers & network aligned with the IT/OT structure.
  • Manage the H&V Change process in implementing the controls policies, safety policies & engineering processes for new and existing equipment.
  • Manage Capital Projects that require the addition or modification of existing DCS/QCS controls.
  • Support after hours process control issues, as required, working with our Maintenance Department, both Electrical and Mechanical trades.
  • Training/Development of E&I group
  • Other duties may be required in the future.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE)
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, degree in electrical discipline and a minimum of 3+ years' experience in a process controls engineering and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a strong desire to learn control systems, and computer systems with any Windows OS.
  • Project Management Skills and ability to work effectively as a team member or solo.
  • Ability to multi-task with strong attention to details.
  • Good written and oral communications skills. Problem Solving/Decision making skills
  • Good Teamwork Skills with other Engineers, Operators, Mechanics, Electricians, Paper Machine Superintendents, Procurement, Business Units, R&D, and others in the MA Operations.
  • Experience with A-B PLC's, VFD's, HMI's, DraftSight, Parker/Eurotherm Drives, FT View SE, RSView32 & Panelviews, Defect Detection and Gauging Systems a plus.
