Authored Works Review (Editor) - Bethesda, MD

Work Location

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC)
Bethesda, Maryland

This position is expected to be performed onsite at WRNMMC.

Position Details
  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: Unclassified position. Must satisfy TIER II/non-critical sensitive background investigation/suitability requirements and CAC/network access requirements, as applicable.
  • Type of Employment: Full-Time
  • Positions Available: 1 FTE
  • Period of Performance: Base Period: December 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027, with potential option periods.
  • Estimate Pay: $43.02 per hour
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

Working hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays and authorized Federal facility closures. Working hours are subject to change at the base's discretion. Occasional after-hours support may be required for contingency operations, exercises, or other mission requirements.

Summary of Duties

The Authored Works Review Editor will manage the end-to-end editorial lifecycle for publications and communications products supporting Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The Editor will edit and proofread materials for accuracy, clarity, AP Style, regulatory compliance, and organizational standards; verify facts and source information; coordinate reviews with subject matter experts, legal personnel, public affairs personnel, and other stakeholders; maintain editorial and style standards; and support final clearance and approval of communications products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional editing, copyediting, technical writing, or related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of AP Style.
  • Experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or a comparable environment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/PHI requirements.
  • Demonstrated editorial project-management skills.
  • Strong fact-checking and source-verification capabilities.
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate complex reviews involving multiple stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage publications and communications products throughout the editorial lifecycle.
  • Edit and proofread written products for grammar, clarity, consistency, accuracy, and style.
  • Apply AP Style and applicable organizational standards.
  • Fact-check content and verify supporting sources.
  • Coordinate editorial reviews with subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate with legal, public affairs, leadership, and other stakeholders.
