Specific ResponsibilitiesThe Internal Audit Advisor for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache's Forensic and Shared Audit Services department at the company's Houston office reporting to the Forensic & Shared Audit Services Director.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
- Revenue Audits
- Plan, lead, and/or perform revenue-related audits involving gas processing plants, oil and gas purchasers, revenue product allocation, battery/site security, marketing arrangements, and related M&A activity.
- Obtain and analyze contracts and supporting documentation, including volume, pipeline and plant statements; remittance and settlement detail; imbalance, payout, nomination, and processing-election information; flow diagrams, schematics, maps, and correspondence.
- Identify risks, develop audit scope and procedures, perform testing, and use Excel, system queries, and other data analytics to quantify audit issues and recoveries.
- Joint Venture Audit Performance
- Analyze Joint Account Data Exchange (JADE), joint interest billings, Joint Operating Agreements, Accounting Procedures, COPAS guidance, AFEs, and supporting records to establish audit scope and evaluate chargeability.
- Conduct audits, issue clear Information Requests and Preliminary Exceptions, prepare concise audit reports and rebuttals, and track exceptions and credits through final resolution.
- Joint Venture Audit Hosting
- Coordinate and support audits performed by non-operating partners, including scheduling, data gathering, information-request responses, preliminary-exception analysis, rebuttals, and resolution of claims.
- Use relevant company systems and data sources to reconcile audit support, including joint interest billings to JADE, and work with Accounting, Payroll, Operations, Supply Chain, and other groups to substantiate charges.
- Calculate and facilitate appropriate credits to Joint Accounts and maintain workpapers supporting responses, conclusions, and final resolution.
- General Audit Responsibilities
- Prepare organized workpapers, clear and comprehensive internal and external reports, and management updates on audit status, recoveries, and outstanding issues.
- Lead or participate in meetings with auditees, business stakeholders, and management; communicate findings, recommendations, and technical conclusions in a constructive, business-focused manner.
- Perform special projects and provide subject-matter guidance as assigned by management.
Qualifications & ExperienceThe successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, gas marketing or another related field.
- Experience
- Relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Relevant experience may be in revenue or marketing accounting, gas processing or commercial operations, measurement, joint venture or expenditure accounting, capital accounting, operations, or audit.
- Prior revenue audit, joint venture audit performance, or joint venture audit hosting experience is strongly preferred. For internal candidates, directly relevant operational, commercial, accounting, or business experience may be considered in lieu of prior audit experience.
- Skills
- Comprehensive oil and gas industry knowledge, with the ability to understand how operations, measurement, commercial arrangements, accounting, and contracts affect revenue or Joint Account outcomes.
- Knowledge of revenue accounting, marketing, measurement, field flow, processing, and/or joint venture expenditure accounting, capital accounting, Joint Operating Agreements, Accounting Procedures, and COPAS guidance, as applicable to the assigned portfolio.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause-analysis skills; ability to translate complex data and contractual or accounting concepts into clear conclusions and quantifiable results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare persuasive, concise audit correspondence and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to influence, gain trust, and manage complex projects independently while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Advanced Excel and data-analysis capability. Experience with SAP is strongly preferred; knowledge of relevant systems such as DataNow, Ariba, Fieldglass, AFENav, Concur, WellView, or comparable systems is desirable.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as business needs require.
