Full Job Description
A-TEK is seeking a Senior AV Engineer to support our federal customer in Montgomery County MD. In this role, you will serve as the primary subject matter expert for the client's A/V technology environment. Senior AV Engineer III is a technical leader responsible for designing, integrating, commissioning, and supporting complex enterprise audio-visual systems. This role provides technical oversight for AV projects, mentors junior engineers, resolves advanced technical issues, and ensures projects are delivered according to industry standards, customer requirements, and project schedules. The Senior AV Engineer works closely with project managers, architects, IT teams, and clients throughout the project lifecycle. Comprehensive knowledge of county, state, and federal building codes, fire and life safety requirements, ADA accessibility standards, NEC (National Electrical Code), and construction best practices, ensuring all AV system designs and installations comply with applicable regulations and industry standards. Ability to obtain and retain a public trust level clearance is required for consideration. This is a hybrid position based in Rockville, MD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise AV solutions.
  • Design conference rooms, boardrooms, training centers, auditoriums, command centers, and collaboration spaces.
  • Configure and commission AV equipment, including:
    • LED displays and video walls
    • Projectors and presentation systems
    • Digital Signal Processors (DSPs)
    • Professional audio systems
    • PTZ cameras
    • Control systems
    • Digital signage
  • Program and troubleshoot Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Evertz, Analog Way, Biamp, Ross, Midas and control systems.
  • Design and support AV-over-IP solutions using technologies such as Dante, AES67, NDI, and SDVoE.
  • Configure Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Cisco Webex, and other unified communications platforms.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of AV hardware, software, networking, and control systems.
  • Develop system architecture, rack layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Lead system commissioning, testing, and customer acceptance.
  • Mentor Junior AV Engineers and AV Engineers by providing technical guidance and reviewing designs.
  • Collaborate with project managers to estimate project effort, schedules, and technical risks.
  • Support escalated customer issues and provide advanced technical support.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and company quality procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5-8 years of professional AV engineering or systems integration experience.
  • Extensive experience with commercial AV systems and enterprise deployments.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Audio signal processing
    • Video routing and distribution
    • AV-over-IP technologies
    • TCP/IP networking
    • VLANs and multicast
    • Digital audio networking
    • Unified Communications platforms
  • Experience leading technical projects from design through commissioning.
  • Ability to read and develop technical drawings and system documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer-facing skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CTS certification (required)
  • CTS-D and/or CTS-I certification (strongly preferred)
  • Crestron, Extron, or Q-SYS programming certifications
  • Dante Level 2 or Level 3 certification
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or Visio
  • PMP certification (preferred)

Compensation

Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
