Full Job Description
Please Note:
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced by 4.62% and will accrue 8 hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period. PLP 2025 for this classification is expected to be effective through October 2026.

Under general direction of the Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel, the Staff Misconduct Monitoring Unit Attorney Supervisor supervises a team of Attorney Is who monitor California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations (CDCR) routine reviews regarding alleged staff misconduct; critical incident cases; cases closed by the Office of Internal Affairs under special conditions; and attends use-of-force institutional executive review committees. The Attorney Supervisor supervises a team of Attorney Is who monitor the performance of prison supervisors who conduct the routine reviews regarding alleged staff misconduct and the reviewing authority who make findings regarding the allegations; monitor the prison staff involved in critical incidents and make recommendations to the hiring authority; monitor the disciplinary process for cases closed by Office of Internal Affairs pursuant to special conditions; and attends the institutional executive review committees to assess the committee's review of use-of-force incidents.

This position may eligible for teleworking under Government Code 14200 et. seq. for eligible applicants residing in California, but in-office work will be required. Proof of California residency will be required if teleworking prior to start date.

The designated Headquarters (HQ) for this position is in Kern County, and the selected candidate will be required to commute to their HQ office location as needed to meet operational needs. All commute expenses to the HQ location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • The ability to supervise a group of subordinate attorneys who perform a wide variety of legal work, with varying of legal work, with varying levels of complexity, and independently handle complex and sensitive cases.
  • The ability to assist in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of legal staff.
  • Experience in conducting, monitoring, or assessing investigations.
  • Experience in litigating, monitoring, or assessing employee discipline cases.
  • Experience in supervising attorneys or serving as a lead to a group of attorneys.
