Job Description:
This job is responsible for providing legal support for residential mortgage origination activities, including conventional conforming, government-insured and guaranteed, jumbo, high net worth, and other customized mortgage lending products. Key responsibilities include serving as a trusted legal advisor to business, operations, compliance, risk, and product partners on matters involving mortgage lending laws, regulatory developments, operational practices, and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and strategic guidance on conventional and government inured residential mortgage origination activities, products, processes, and initiatives
  • Counsel business partners on jumbo, high net worth, asset-based, relationship-based, and other customized mortgage lending programs
  • Provide legal analysis on mortgage product development, underwriting practices, pricing considerations, disclosures, advertising, digital applications, and secondary market eligibility requirements
  • Partner closely with compliance, risk, audit, operations, and product teams to assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risk
  • Support examinations, regulatory inquiries, audits, investigations, litigation, and remediation initiatives involving mortgage lending activities
  • Participate in strategic projects involving technology modernization, digital mortgage initiatives, automation, artificial intelligence, and operational process enhancements

Required Qualifications:

  • Active membership in at least one state bar.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience practicing law, with substantial experience supporting residential mortgage lending activities.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on mortgage origination products and processes.
  • Strong understanding of mortgage industry business practices and operational workflows.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting a large bank, mortgage lender, or other financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of conventional conforming mortgage programs and agency requirements.
  • Experience advising on jumbo, private banking, high net worth, wealth management affiliated, or customized mortgage origination programs.
  • Familiarity with mortgage secondary market requirements and investor guidelines.
  • Experience interacting with federal and state regulatory agencies and examination teams.
  • Experience providing legal support for digital mortgage platforms, automated underwriting systems, eClosing initiatives, and product innovation efforts.
