Full Job Description

At a Glance:

TheAttorney position at H&P will act as a legal advisor and business partner. This role will provide legal and business advice and support with respect to all aspects of the business, including domestic and international corporate and transactional matters (e.g. structuring, negotiating and drafting agreements, providing legal interpretation of existing agreements, and evaluating and recommending methods of avoiding or managing legal risks); supporting investigations, mediations and litigation; public company filings and reports, subsidiary formation and management; and other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.

What You will do:

  • Draft, review and negotiate a diverse range of agreements common to the oil and gas industry, including drilling and technology contracts, master services agreements, master purchase agreements, and confidentiality agreements

  • Analyze and interpret laws, statutes and regulations, and identify areas of compliance, as well as potential vulnerability and risk; partner with the appropriate business unit(s) and/or operations in order to develop and implement appropriate action plans

  • Provide legal guidance and assist the Company's efforts on all corporate and strategic transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, inter-company relationships, complex commercial agreements, and other corporate activities

  • Assist Human Resources on a variety of employment matters

  • Provide advice in a wide array of practice areas and special projects as needed

  • Keep up to date with respect to industry related laws and regulations to help identify changes and incorporate them into policies, and procedures, and agreements

  • Provide litigation guidance, including review and preparation of pleadings, motions, and discovery; assist with preparation of witnesses for deposition; case reporting and deadline tracking

  • Analyze claims/litigation to effectively participate in decisions related to resolution strategy

  • Assist in conducting workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, including performing interviews and preparing written summaries and formal investigative reports

  • Perform additional tasks as requested

What You need:

  • Proven ability to quickly and effectively prioritize, review, and negotiate agreements in the context of business circumstances and provide advice that recognizes and integrates legal risk and business objectives

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively with individuals from multiple departments and disciplines at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams

  • Sound judgment even in ambiguous situations

  • Strong attention to detail and proactive approach

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in Oklahoma (or eligible for admission within six months of hire)

  • A minimum of three years9 relevant experience in-house or with a strong regional or national law firm preferred

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry or international law preferred

  • Fluency in Spanish or Arabic a plus

  • Ability to occasionally travel internationally
