Full Job Description
Job Summary
The Attorney Fellow is an attorney with at least one year of legal practice experience who provides junior-level legal support across a wide range of subject matter areas within the Litigation, Compliance and Contracting Section of the Legal Department. This fellowship is intended to introduce attorneys to non-profit, healthcare, and in-house legal practice. Fellows work closely with experienced attorneys across diverse practice areas to gain exposure to complex legal and operational issues that support MGB's clinical, research, and administrative missions.

This position offers meaningful, hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare legal environment, including opportunities to engage directly with internal clients and contribute to work that supports patient care and organizational integrity.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide junior attorney-level support across multiple practice areas within the Litigation, Compliance, and Contracting Section. Practice areas include Digital, Supply Chain, Compliance, Privacy, Pharmacy, Patient Accounts, and general litigation matters.
• Conduct legal research and assist with fact development.
• Draft memoranda, pleadings, and legal correspondence, including responding to 93A demands to the hospitals relating to charges for services and to MGB Health Plan for denials of coverage.
• Assist with third-party discovery, including responding to subpoenas or requests for testimony by providers in criminal cases, product liability matters, and child custody proceedings. Work may also include serving objections, filing motions, and preparing providers for their testimony.
• Support e-discovery workflows, including document retention, review, and production.
• Provide support on matters involving export controls and bulk data transfers to ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and institutional standards.

Program Structure & Professional Development
• Fellowship term is generally two years.
• Fellows work closely with experienced attorneys across multiple practice areas, gaining broad exposure to legal issues impacting a leading academic health system.
• The program emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and practical experience in a collaborative, mission-oriented environment.
• Fellows will gain insight into the legal and ethical considerations that support high-quality patient care, research innovation, and operational excellence at MGB.

Qualifications

Education
  • Juris Doctor Law required


Licenses and Credentials
  • Admission to at least one state bar (or eligibility to obtain admission within a reasonable period).


Experience
  • Minimum of one continuous year of legal practice experience.


Preferred Experience
  • Experience or coursework in healthcare law, litigation, compliance, privacy, or regulatory matters.
  • Familiarity with discovery processes, including e-discovery.
  • Demonstrated interest in practicing in a non-profit, healthcare, or in-house legal setting.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

The salary range for this position is $92,580.80 - $121,492.80.
