Job DescriptionIdaho National Laboratory is hiring an Experiment Engineer to work in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Experiment Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located at the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) facility with every Friday off. All work is performed onsite.
You will help facilitate the irradiation of experiments at the ATR and ensure ATR evolutions for the experiments are conducted within the bounds of operational and safety requirements. You will report directly to the manager of the ATR Experiment Engineering department.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:- Support irradiation of ATR experiments through collaboration with other INL organizations for analysis, design, and other engineering activities.
- Evaluate, design, modify, install, test, and provide system engineering support for ATR experiment systems, structures, and components.
- Develop and write experiment-related paperwork in support of normal operations.
- Ensure ATR experiment systems are properly maintained and configuration managed.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, facility requirements, and design requirements to experiment systems and activities.
- Perform ATR core load verifications.
- Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure assigned ATR experiment systems and equipment are operated, maintained, and modified to meet operational and research needs.
- Maintain positive working relationships with interfacing organizations such as maintenance, operations, various engineering organizations, project management, etc.
- Perform experiment safety analysis to demonstrate that experiments comply with all applicable nuclear safety requirements.
- Develop experiment specific safety requirements and ensure requirements are properly implemented into procedures and other work control documents.
Required: - Level 3: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience. All degrees must be from a program accredited by ABET.
- Level 4: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 9 years of relevant experience, a Master's degree in Engineering and 6 years or relevant experience, or PhD and 4 years of relevant experience . All degrees must be from a program accredited by ABET.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess: - National Laboratory engineering experience.
- Nuclear Safety experience.
- Familiarity with ATR experiment processes.
Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Job Information:- The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($95,256 - $195,288) / Level 4 ($114,360 - $234,336). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
