Full Job Description
The Opportunity

Our Connectivity Engineering team is responsible for building and scaling the invisible infrastructure that powers our autonomous fleets. We design, optimize, and maintain the critical data paths that allow our DFR (Drone as First Responder) solutions to stream real-time, high-definition video and telemetry across complex environments seamlessly.

We are seeking an Associate Wireless Software Engineer with a passion for wireless technology, embedded systems, and communications to help enhance our integrated connectivity solutions for NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) terrestrial and aerial systems.

In this role, you will work directly alongside senior engineers and mentors to contribute to our Wi-Fi and cellular stack, integrate radio hardware into our drone systems, and write software across the Linux user space and driver layer. This is an exciting opportunity for a hungry engineer to gain hands-on, end-to-end experience across real-world wireless hardware, firmware, and cloud systems.

You will work closely with cross-functional RF, systems, device software, and cloud engineering teams to build and refine cutting-edge autonomous solutions.

The Skillset

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Recent Grads & Ph.D. candidates welcome!).
  • Solid foundational proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments and basic software development tools (Git, debugging, unit testing).
  • Demonstrated interest or academic exposure to wireless communications, networking, or embedded hardware (via coursework, research lab experience, student design teams, or personal projects).
  • Effective communication skills and a strong desire to learn, collaborate, and grow within a fast-paced engineering team.

Nice to Have (Any of the following is a bonus, not a requirement!):
  • Hands-on lab or project experience with wireless standards (802.11 / Wi-Fi, 3GPP / 5G, or C-V2X).
  • Experience with microcontrollers, Software-Defined Radios (SDR), or single-board computers (ESP32, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, USRP).
  • Exposure to low-level Linux programming (sockets, user-space drivers, or networking stacks).
  • Involvement in hands-on student design projects or robotics teams (e.g., RoboJackets, Formula SAE, Drone/UAV teams, or university research labs).
  • Basic understanding of databases or data logging tools (SQL, Python data tools, Databricks, etc.).
Location Requirement

This position requires candidates to work on a hybrid-remote basis at our Atlanta, GA-based engineering center. Given this requirement, we are only able to consider candidates who are local to Atlanta.

Feeling uneasy that you haven't ticked every box? That's okay; we've felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.

90 Days at Flock

We prescribe 90-day plans to ensure every new team member has clear guidance, mentorship, and support to succeed.
  • The First 30 Days:
    • Get onboarded with Flock products and learn how to run tests in our hardware/connectivity lab.
    • Work with a mentor to integrate an off-the-shelf radio into our drone-web system.
  • The First 60 Days:
    • Build software routines to extract radio/link statistics (RSSI, SNR, packet loss) and log them into a centralized database.
    • Shadow senior engineers on multi-link cellular and Wi-Fi architecture setups.
  • 90 Days & Beyond:
    • Help design and test initial rate adaptation algorithms for dynamic wireless environments and evaluate real-world flight performance.
Salary & Equity

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary of $100,000 - $150,000 as well as Flock Stock Options.
