Summary:The Associate Vice President of Nursing provides senior strategic leadership and oversight for all Nursing Programs (all levels).
Reporting to the Vice President of Health Sciences, this role ensures academic excellence, regulatory compliance, and program outcomes that align with institutional and accreditation standards across all campuses and divisions.
The Associate Vice President oversees the Deans of Nursing, Program Directors, and Program Managers at each campus, ensuring consistency in program delivery, student support, faculty development, and accreditation readiness.
This position partners closely with the Vice President of Health Sciences to advance the nursing programs, manage program budgets, and ensure high-quality educational experiences for all students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Leadership and Supervision
- Provide senior leadership and supervision to the Deans of Nursing, Program Directors, and Program Managers across all campuses and divisions where nursing programs are offered, ensuring consistent execution of nursing program goals and institutional strategy.
- Lead program development, evaluation, and improvement across all campuses to ensure the programs meet educational and industry standards.
- Foster a collaborative environment across campuses that supports Deans, faculty, staff, and students, promoting a culture of academic excellence and professional growth.
- Monitor and enhance the delivery of nursing curriculum across campuses, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, state regulatory requirements, and institutional goals.
- Prepare proposals or alternatives that benefit the growth or strengthening of the nursing programs and academic faculty, presenting recommendations to the Vice President of Health Sciences.
- Maintain communication with the senior leadership team on all academic-administrative processes.
- Support the Admissions department by overseeing the transfer evaluation processes, admission requirements, and validations of admitted nursing students institution-wide.
- Academic and Program Oversight
- Ensure the nursing programs maintain compliance with all accreditation requirements (e.g., ACEN, CCNE) and state licensing board standards across all campuses, including leading completion of all program reports.
- Lead accreditation committee meetings and tasks institution-wide to ensure timely completion of accreditation documents and reports.
- Monitor program outcomes across all campuses, including NCLEX pass rates, student retention, completion rate, and employment outcomes, ensuring they meet or exceed established benchmarks.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Health Sciences to develop and implement strategic initiatives to advance nursing education across campuses, including producing reports and updating policies and handbooks required to ensure effective compliance with the services provided by the Institution.
- Develop and implement quality assurance processes for clinical site placements across all campuses, ensuring that students have access to high-quality, real-world nursing experiences.
- Regularly review and update nursing curricula in collaboration with the Deans of Nursing and faculty, ensuring relevance to current healthcare practices and trends.
- Participate in program development and program investment planning for nursing programs, providing feedback and recommendations to the Academic Board, and securing approval of the Vice President of Program Development, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the corresponding institutional authorities before implementation.
- Faculty Development and Support
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of nursing faculty across all campuses, in partnership with the Deans of Nursing and Program Directors, ensuring faculty are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to succeed in both classroom and clinical settings.
- Oversee faculty professional development programs institution-wide, ensuring ongoing education and skill enhancement in alignment with healthcare industry trends.
- Review performance evaluations for Deans of Nursing, faculty, and staff conducted at the campus level, providing guidance, constructive feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
- Create, review, and maintain the nursing program faculty handbook.
- Student Success and Retention
- Collaborate with student services, academic affairs, and the Deans of Nursing to develop and implement strategies to support student retention and success across all campuses, including intervention strategies for at-risk students.
- Ensure that students institution-wide are adequately prepared for licensure exams (e.g., NCLEX) and that remediation support is available for students who need additional help.
- Oversee the resolution of student concerns and grievances escalated from the campus level, fostering a supportive and positive learning environment.
- Support the area of Student Affairs for activities related to retention across all campuses.
- Administrative and Operational Duties
- Develop and manage the nursing program budgets across all campuses, including oversight of resources for clinical practices and skills labs, with final approval from the Vice President of Health Sciences.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of program reports, accreditation documents, and other compliance-related materials across all campuses.
- Serve as a senior point of contact for external stakeholders, including clinical partners, accreditation bodies, and state nursing boards.
- Attend relevant institutional meetings, accreditation visits, and nursing advisory board meetings, representing the interests of the nursing programs institution-wide.
- Oversee campus scheduling to ensure faculty assigned are credentialed for the courses and levels being taught.
- Oversee, in coordination with the Deans of Nursing and appropriate administrative personnel, the inventory of equipment and materials that serve as instructional resources for the programs of study at each campus.
- Develop and update a master equipment and supply list in accordance with the programs of study.
- Coordinate the yearly professional development and in-service calendar and options for nursing faculty and administrative staff across all campuses.
- Review and revise faculty evaluation plans and processes to support Deans of Nursing and campus administrative leadership.
- Clinical Partnerships and Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with clinical partners across all campuses to secure high-quality placements for students, ensuring that all clinical experience requirements are met.
- Work effectively with community groups, educational entities, boards, business, industry, government, and legislative bodies to develop partnerships that improve services to students and to the Nursing Programs.
- Represent the nursing programs within the broader healthcare community, participating in professional associations, boards, and advisory groups on behalf of the Institution.
- Collaborate with clinical coordinators and Deans of Nursing to ensure that clinical sites offer robust learning experiences and meet all regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements:- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in nursing education, with at least 5 years in a senior academic administrative leadership role.
- Experience overseeing multiple nursing programs and campuses.
- Proven experience in program accreditation (ACEN and/or CCNE) and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- A track record of improving program outcomes across multiple sites, including NCLEX pass rates and student retention.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments and campuses.
