The Associate VP, Interoperability Engineering devises an effective strategy for executing and delivering on IT business initiatives. The Associate VP, Interoperability Engineering requires a in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide.
The Associate Vice President, Technology Solutions - Interoperability Engineering serves as the enterprise technology leader responsible for advancing Humana's interoperability engineering strategy, platforms, and delivery capabilities. This role partners across business, technology, architecture, security, and operations organizations to define and execute the long-term vision for interoperability as a strategic enterprise capability.
The AVP, Interoperability Engineering is accountable for engineering execution, data acquisition platform modernization, reusable platform services, and enterprise interoperability transformation initiatives. This leader will evolve interoperability beyond traditional data exchange by establishing scalable enterprise platforms, API ecosystems, automation capabilities, and developer services that enable both regulatory compliance and emerging business opportunities.
Working within a highly matrixed environment, the AVP drives strategic planning, operational excellence, engineering modernization, and organizational capability development while ensuring technology investments align with enterprise priorities, architecture standards, and future regulatory direction.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnology Leadership
- Serve as the strategic technology leader for Interoperability Engineering, establishing vision, priorities, and execution strategies that align with enterprise objectives.
- Lead large-scale modernization and transformation initiatives while fostering a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Interoperability Strategy & Platform Vision
- Define and execute the long-term interoperability roadmap, target architecture, and enterprise platform strategy.
- Expand interoperability capabilities beyond data exchange into reusable enterprise services including APIs, developer platforms, automation frameworks, data acquisition capabilities, and integration services.
- Anticipate regulatory and market trends, ensuring Humana is prepared to rapidly respond to evolving interoperability requirements.
Engineering & Delivery Excellence
- Establish modern engineering practices, governance models, quality standards, and performance metrics that drive predictable delivery outcomes.
- Accelerate adoption of AI-enabled engineering solutions, automation, and DevSecOps practices across the software development lifecycle.
- Drive engineering efficiency and scalability through reusable services, standardized platforms, and automation capabilities.
Platform Stewardship & Operational Excellence
- Own the health, resiliency, scalability, security, compliance, and operational performance of interoperability platforms and services.
- Establish platform governance, engineering standards, service management practices, and operational accountability across APIs, integrations, developer services, and data acquisition platforms.
- Ensure platforms are designed to support enterprise-scale growth, evolving regulatory requirements, and increased business demand.
- Develop measurable service-level objectives and operational performance indicators that support continuous improvement and business confidence.
Enterprise Standards & Ecosystem Leadership
- Define, govern, and continuously evolve enterprise interoperability standards, integration frameworks, API management practices, and reusable platform patterns.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Product, and business stakeholders to establish and maintain enterprise-wide interoperability capabilities.
- Lead Humana's adoption and advancement of industry standards and best practices, including FHIR, HL7, CAQH, and emerging interoperability technologies.
Financial, Workforce & Vendor Governance
- Develop and execute workforce, investment, and sourcing strategies that strengthen Humana's long-term interoperability engineering capabilities.
- Build deeper internal technical expertise in strategic capability areas.
- Leverage strategic partners selectively to accelerate modernization, enhance capabilities, and provide specialized expertise while ensuring critical knowledge remains institutionalized within the organization.
Talent Development & Organizational Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization focused on technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and customer-focused outcomes.
- Develop engineering leaders and associates through coaching, mentorship, succession planning, and career development opportunities.
- Strengthen organizational depth in platform engineering, interoperability standards, cloud technologies, APIs, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Create an environment that attracts, develops, and retains top engineering talent while fostering continuous learning and professional growth.
Required Technical Qualifications- Proven success as a Healthcare Interoperability Expert

Pay RangeThe compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$189,400 - $260,500 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
