Position DescriptionReportingto the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Associate Vice-President(AVP), International Education is a senior executive leader and highly visiblechampion of internationalization at George Brown Polytechnic. The AVP providesstrategic vision and institutional leadership for international studentrecruitment and success, global academic and industry partnerships, student andfaculty mobility, study-abroad opportunities, and international businessdevelopment.
As a member of thePolytechnic's senior management team, the AVP leads the Office of InternationalEducation and oversees its strategy, operations, people, partnerships,programs, and resources. Working collaboratively across the Polytechnic, theAVP advances international learning and engagement through a lens of globalcitizenship, social justice, equity, and inclusion. The role developspartnerships and programs that strengthen teaching, applied research,experiential learning, student success, institutional reputation, andsustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership:Strategic Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and execute the Polytechnic's international strategy in alignment with institutional, academic, and enrolment priorities.
- Cultivate senior-level relationships with post-secondary institutions, industry, government, professional organizations, and other partners to advance the Polytechnic's international objectives and reputation.
- Represent George Brown Polytechnic on relevant sector committees, associations, and international initiatives.
- Use enrolment, market, financial, and student-success data to identify opportunities and inform strategic and operational decisions.
- InternationalOutreach and Partnership Development
- Identify, negotiate, and oversee international academic, government, industry, and business partnerships that support recruitment, global learning, and institutional priorities.
- Collaborate with the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, academic leaders, and faculty to expand international agreements, pathways, exchanges, study-abroad opportunities, experiential learning, and applied research partnerships.
- Establish effective governance, risk-management, and performance frameworks for international agreements and partnerships.
- Staff Leadershipand Development
- Lead the Office of International Education and its senior team, with accountability for performance across international recruitment, admissions, partnerships, student services, mobility, and operations.
- Build and develop a diverse, high-performing team with the capabilities and accountability needed to deliver the Polytechnic's international priorities.
- InternationalStudent Services and Success
- Oversee coordinated academic, cultural, immigration, settlement, transition, and related supports for international students and domestic students studying abroad.
- Strengthen the international student journey from application through graduation, working with Student Success and other areas to improve integration, retention, and achievement.
- FinancialAccountability
- Provide strategic oversight of the departmental budget and align resources with institutional priorities and operational requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements- A master's degree from a recognized institution in international relations, business administration, education, or a related discipline is required.
- A minimum of nine years of progressive management and leadership experience in international education, post-secondary education, international business development, or a related field, including at least three years in an overseas setting.
- Demonstrated experience developing international institutional or business relationships and negotiating complex partnership agreements.
- Experience leading strategic and business planning, supported by market analysis, financial analysis, performance measurement, and assessment of return on investment.
- Demonstrated success leading diverse, high-performing teams and cross-functional initiatives, including teams operating across geographic regions and time zones.
- Experience establishing and nurturing partnerships in the Polytechnic's priority international markets, including China, India, the Caribbean, and Italy, is an asset.
- Experience identifying and securing grants or other funding through organizations such as the World Bank, Global Affairs Canada, Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), or comparable funding bodies is an asset.
- Experience working in a priority international region and in a unionized environment is preferred.

- Comprehensive knowledge of international and post-secondary education, including recruitment, partnerships, student mobility, student success, and relevant immigration and study- and work-permit requirements.

- Exceptional communication, negotiation, relationship-building, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence senior academic, government, industry, and international partners.
- High emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability, with an understanding of how cultural expectations shape communication and relationships. Fluency in additional languages is a asset.
- Sound executive judgement and the ability to resolve complex issues, manage risk, and lead through change and ambiguity.
