Job Description:This position would be responsible for working closely with the Chief Financial Officer for the State University of New York in effectuating the Chancellor and Board of Trustee's vision for the long-term and ongoing fiscal and operational health of the entirety of the SUNY System.
In this role, the successful candidate will oversee a portion of the Chief Financial Officer portfolio, which includes (i) the University-wide Budget Office, (ii) the System Administration Business Office, and (iii) the University Controllers Office.
Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer of the State University of New York (SUNY), the successful incumbent will be responsible for:
- Oversight and supervision of the University-wide Budget Office and System Administration Business Office, including ensuring (i) delivery of high quality and easily understood fiscal and operational analysis in partnership with these offices, (ii) serve as a lead in the System Administration Operating Budget process, and (iii) ensuring the professional development and success of individuals within these portfolios.
- This includes working directly with counterparts at individual State-operated campuses, Statutory Colleges, Community Colleges, and program offices to understand and solve issues related to both day-to-day and long-term operations.
- Perform high-quality and detailed analysis of large data sets related to the analysis of higher education institutions operations with the goal of providing actionable recommendations to improve campus fiscal health, operational efficiency, reduce risk, and improve services to students, faculty, and staff.
- Serving as a key member of the SUNY Chief Financial Officer Portfolio through (i) aiding the SUNY University-wide Budget Office and System Administration Business Office in maintaining and increasing the high quality of analytical work, (ii) working closely with departments within System Administration to ensure financial and operational stability and aid in annual financial plan forecasting, (iii) engaging in regular review, update, and creation of standard operating procedures, policies, and guidance documents to better streamline operations while ensuring proper internal controls and mitigating risk as possible, and (iv) working directly with the SUNY Chief Financial Officer as a thought partner in preparing and recommending reviews and recommendations to Senior Leadership, the Chancellor, and Board of Trustees for eventual engagement with campus / college leadership.
- Working with the SUNY Chief Financial Officer and other specific departments within System Administration on the development of campus based tools to support operational stability and excellence, including but not limited to (i) active management of academic program offerings, (ii) active management of employee workforce with a focus on risk identification and mitigation, (iii) aligning capital facilities needs with available resources and ensuring support of the physical infrastructure, and (iv) working with SUNY Shared Services to promote and effectuate shared services opportunities in various areas.
- Presenting, as needed, in partnership with the SUNY Chief Financial Officer to the State University Business Officers Association (SUBOA), the Community College Business Officers Association (CCBOA), the New York State Division of the Budget (DOB), Chief Academic Officers, Chief Procurement Officers, and others as required on specific financial and administrative items that may benefit from a dual campus / system perspective.

Requirements:Required Qualifications:- Bachelors degree.
- Strong analytical and technical experience is required, paired with experience in analyzing, making recommendations, and presenting said recommendations on complex fiscal situations to those without financial background.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and technical capabilities, thrive under pressure, and effectively manage shifting priorities and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:- Masters Degree.
- Extensive supervisory experience within State or Federal Government is preferred, with similar experience within health care, community colleges, and / or four-year institutions also considered.
- Candidates with Business Intelligence / Power BI expertise, strong Microsoft Excel capabilities, and understanding / ease of using emerging technologies are preferred.
Additional Information: - Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $160,000-$190,000 annually.
- The posted salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position. Individual starting salaries are determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. While the full range is provided for transparency, starting salaries generally fall near the entry to midpoint of the range. Salaries at or near the top of the range are rare and reserved for candidates who exceptionally exceed all posted requirements.
