Summary of the Position:
The Sustainability Associate will be an integral part of the Global Sustainability department, advancing sustainability and responsible investment efforts across the firm. The candidate will interact with colleagues throughout the organization and therefore should be articulate, with the ability to communicate effectively across all functions and levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Investor Reporting
• Preparing and coordinating responses to current and prospective investor questionnaires on sustainability and responsible investment strategy and metricsCreating investor presentations related to sustainability and responsible investment
• Assisting the firm in annual GRESB, SFDR, and UN PRI reporting
• Assisting in the creation of the annual firmwide Responsible Investment report
• Supporting the automation and streamlining of sustainability data collection, investor reporting, and recurring workflows through the use of digital tools, data systems, and AI solutions
Decarbonization
• Assisting in the delivery of Tishman Speyer's operational carbon neutrality goals across its global real estate portfolio
• Researching, developing, and presenting new technologies and strategies to achieve energy efficiency, manage demand, energy storage, and generate onsite renewable energy
Property Environmental Performance Management
• Managing portfolio-wide maintenance of operational building certifications (ex: LEED, EnergyStar, Fitwel, BREEAM, etc.)
• Supporting data management through collection, analysis and reporting on environmental impacts, including energy, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and indoor air quality (IAQ)
• Tracking performance indicators, baselines, and targets to drive improvement programs and risk management around climate change, energy, water resources, waste, data center energy efficiency, green buildings, and transportation
• Working with property management teams to communicate results, share best practices, and make targeted recommendations to support improvements
• Tracking building regulations and building performance standards in Tishman Speyer's current and prospective markets in the U.S. and how the portfolio performs against them
Other Sustainability Reporting and Integration
• Supporting responsible investment reporting and engagement, including strategy development, and customer process
• Coordinating employee sustainability training and programming to ensure all regions and companies are aligned
Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor's and/or graduate degree preferred in Real Estate Development, Business, Architecture, Sustainability, Engineering, or Environmental Policy
• 3-5 years of experience in material real estate sustainability issues that could affect a private firm's value and/or reputation, specifically climate change, human resources, built world resiliency, and clean energy technologies
• Solid grasp of sustainability and environmental topics and fundamentals for the built environment (such as energy systems, planning policy, waste, carbon/energy, responsible sourcing, water, biodiversity, and certification systems)
• Understanding of key scientific, policy, and market developments related to climate that continue to shape corporate action and investment decisions
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Demonstrable ability to think strategically and to present information in a clear and concise manner
• Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment in managing multiple tasks
• Strong problem-solving skills
• The ability to work independently and proactively
• Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders, functions, and regions
• Strong interest in data management and the practical application of AI and digital tools
• Prior experience with GRESB, UN PRI, and SFDR reporting are preferred
• Experience with net zero planning, climate risk assessment, and green building certifications preferred
The base compensation range for this role is $120,000 to $130,000. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, as well as access to our comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan (with matching contributions), wellness benefits and all other benefits afforded to full-time Tishman Speyer employees.
This base range reflects a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skill sets, and/or licensure required of an individual in this particular role. The base range is also specific to members of Tishman Speyer's California team, as we've considered factors specific to this geography.
