Title: Associate/Senior Editor, Nature Communications (Human Behaviourteam)

About the Role

Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn’t enough to satisfy your desire to learn more about the world? Do you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is "yes" to any or all of these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the Human Behaviour team ofNature Communications.

We are looking for candidates with a background in quantitative social sciences, or in computational science with expertise in humanbehaviour research, to join the Human Behaviour team.

Role Responsibilities

  • Handling original research papers and working closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.

  • Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.

  • Determining the representation of their subject in the journal.

  • Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community.

  • Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

  • Commissioning and editing reviews, and writing editorials.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • A PhD in the quantitative social sciences or in computational science. We especially welcome applicants who have experience with mathematical/computational modelling and simulations

  • Significant research experienceis preferred.

  • A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field isessential.

  • A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your specialty.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal.

  • Be eager to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.

Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for Senior Editor positions.

Successful candidates will report to a Chief Editor in the Health and Clinical Sciences division at Nature Communications.

Thisdemanding and intellectually stimulating role is in either of our New York, Jersey City, Philadelphia, Berlin, Shanghai, Pune or Delhi offices. The position is offered on a permanent basis and its starting date is envisaged as soon as possible.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $80,000/Senior Editor: $95,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
