Job Description:This role is a Commercial Banking (Regional Commercial Bank & Specialty Businesses) developmental role designed to build foundational banking, credit, and relationship management skills over an approximately 24-month development period. Working closely with Relationship Managers and other senior bankers, this role supports the management of a portfolio of commercial client relationships, learns how to identify and address client financial needs, and develops an understanding of TD's products, services, and credit solutions. Through structured on-the-job learning, coaching, and increasing exposure to clients, this role assists in portfolio management activities, client servicing, financial analysis, and business development efforts. The role provides a comprehensive foundation in commercial banking while preparing individuals for future advancement into Relationship Manager and other commercial banking leadership roles.
Depth & Scope:- Early career commercial banking professional participating in a structured development role designed to build relationship management, credit, portfolio management, risk management, client servicing, and business development capabilities over an approximately 24-month period
- Owns a small designated commercial portfolio, serving as a primary day-to-day contact for routine client servicing needs while supporting client retention, relationship expansion, referral generation, and overall portfolio performance
- Supports Relationship Managers in achieving portfolio growth objectives through client servicing, prospect research, client calling preparation, business development support, and identification of cross-sell opportunities
- Assists with financial analysis, credit underwriting, annual reviews, loan renewals, new credit requests, due diligence, risk assessment, and preparation of credit applications and related documentation
- Develops knowledge of commercial banking products, services, lending solutions, treasury management, specialized banking capabilities, risk management practices, and operational procedures
- Learns to identify client needs and recognize opportunities to introduce appropriate TD products, services, and internal partners across business lines
- Builds an understanding of clients' businesses, operating environments, financial needs, strategic objectives, industry sectors, competitive dynamics, and economic factors impacting portfolio performance
- Supports a strong risk and control culture by following established policies, procedures, regulatory expectations, governance standards, and the Bank's Code of Conduct, while identifying and escalating operational, credit, compliance, or regulatory risks as appropriate
- Uses sales and customer relationship management tools to support client follow-up, relationship planning, pipeline management, portfolio visibility, and understanding of customer, industry, and market trends
- Collaborates with internal partners across credit, treasury management, wealth, retail, and other business lines to coordinate client solutions and deliver a seamless customer experience
- Supports accurate and timely execution of business processes, client servicing activities, customer transactions, account activities, administrative requirements, and credit-related documentation
- Applies established procedures, sound judgment, and appropriate escalation practices to resolve routine client, operational, credit, compliance, and risk-related matters
- Supports operational excellence, process improvement, and a strong culture of risk management and control by following established policies, procedures, regulatory expectations, governance standards, and the Bank's Code of Conduct
- Participates in formal training, coaching, mentoring, cross-training, performance development, and professional development activities to build commercial banking expertise
- Contributes to team success by communicating effectively, sharing knowledge and best practices, supporting shared initiatives, and collaborating across functions to achieve business, customer, and team objectives
- Represents TD professionally in interactions with customers, internal partners, community organizations, and industry groups, while contributing to an inclusive, respectful, and client-focused team environment
- Demonstrates increasing independence, accountability, business acumen, and client-facing capability as knowledge, experience, and technical skills develop throughout the program
- Work is performed under regular coaching and guidance from Relationship Managers and commercial banking leaders, with progressively broader responsibilities as proficiency increases
- Develops the skills, judgment, and commercial banking capabilities required for advancement into a Relationship Manager role
Education & Experience:- Undergraduate degree required, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline
- 0-3 years of professional experience
- Foundational knowledge of financial analysis, accounting principles, and business concepts
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to new situations, and work effectively in a collaborative environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Interest in pursuing a career in Commercial Banking and developing toward a Relationship Manager role
- Relevant internship, co-op, customer-facing, sales, or financial services experience preferred
