Position Summary

Nippon Life Global Investors Americas (NLGIA) is seeking an Associate to support its rapidly expanding real assets portfolio covering the U.S. and Europe. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of either real estate, infrastructure and/or agriculture investments and have experience in research and report preparation. Experience with commingled fund investing is beneficial. The position is based in Midtown New York.

NLGIA is an investment management subsidiary of Nippon Life Insurance Company in Japan focused on managing foreign investments for the general account. Nippon Life Insurance Company is one of the largest insurance companies globally with over $650 billion of assets.

Essential Duties/Function:
  • Manage and produce reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis for existing portfolio of investments to monitor portfolio performance.
  • Prepare real assets and macroeconomic research to present to senior management.
  • Assist in the diligence of investments in real asset focused commingled funds alongside other team members, as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and/or site visits to meet with team members across each manager's platform and tour representative assets for the proposed strategy, as needed.
  • Facilitate operations team in managing investment related activities.
  • Engage in implementation of ESG initiatives and measurement across portfolio.
  • Maintain frequent contact with offices in London and Tokyo.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Experience/Qualifications:
  • Strong academic background including Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance, real estate, or other related field.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in real assets at an institutional investor (including insurance company, pension fund, endowment, foundation, SWF or family office), investment consultant or investment manager.
  • Understanding of financial metrics and concepts.
  • Experience and professional manner in interacting directly in-person with senior members of the investment community.
  • Strong command of MS Office software, advanced Excel and financial modeling applications; proficiency with related automated research tools required. Experience writing Excel Macros to automate and enhance reporting processes would be helpful.
  • Working experience with Power BI, including developing and customizing reports using DAX formulas and Power Query for data transformation and visualization preferrable.
  • Excellent organizational, business writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, proactive and able to excel in a highly collaborative global team.
  • A flexible team player able to adapt to change.


The expected annual base salary for this position ranges from $110,000.00-$125,000.00. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus based on qualitative and quantitative performance factors.
