Position Overview
Primary Purpose of PositionThe Department of Psychology within the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair. The Department Chair position is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean of the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences and serves as the department's chief administrative and academic leader.
The Department Chair will be expected to provide visionary leadership of innovative programs with a strong educator-researcher emphasis. In addition to the general oversight of the department, they will be responsible for strategic planning; budget development, management, and allocation; recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff, and student development; management and improvement of curricula; evaluating faculty performance; program assessments and reviews, obtaining and maintaining accreditation; developing external partnerships; interacting with other departments and university leaders to represent the goals of the department. The Department Chair must implement strategies to develop research infrastructure. Other responsibilities include overseeing course schedules, faculty evaluations, and supervision of departmental staff, as well as providing leadership and vision for the department. The chair is also expected to conduct research in their area of expertise and publish in refereed journals and/or conference proceedings, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department (reduced teaching load) and serving on departmental, college, and university-level committees.
The successful candidate must possess: (a) a doctoral degree in Psychology, (b) experience that will support appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, a minimum of three years of experience in an administrative or management position and academic institution with comparable profile, (d) a minimum of three years teaching at the collegiate level at an institution that emphasized teaching, scholarly productivity, and engagement within their discipline, and (e) a strong record of extramural funding.
Minimum Requirements PhD in psycology from an accredited program.

The ability to work collaboratively, inclusively, and communicate effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies is required, as well as familiarity with student recruitment and retention.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Outstanding record of scholarly and professional achievement in social work and experience in fundraising and extramural funding is preferred.
Required License or CertificationIs this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)
