The Associate Package Development Engineer will primarily focus on developing packaging components for promotional, holiday/seasonal and sampling projects. Such projects are packaging one or more finished good items in a special/custom packaging design made from paperboard, tin or plastic materials. Sampling projects are considered to be single/unit dose package or limited use packaging component that are given away to customers for free to trial the product. The Engineer will also be responsible for the maintenance of existing product lines. This includes and not limited to change order of artworks on both primary and secondary, resizing/redesigning of secondary components and/or validating new material. This individual will ensure packaging components are as per design, in quality and on-time per launch timing.
What You'll Do:- Source and develop secondary packaging component from labels, paperboard cartons, set-up boxes, tins, flexible films, and /or plastic, thermoform trays.
- Source sampling components from sachets, to individual thermoform packs and plastic packaging components as per product needs
- Collaborate with Art and Promo Marketing teams on packaging design aspects.
- Request for mock-ups, color drawdowns from suppliers and obtain internal approval as necessary.
- Route final artwork to supplier and ensure approval of digital and final printed color proofs are approved internally.
- Review and approve models/mock-ups and technical drawings prior to mass production
- Approve color and defect rangeboards of component parts
- Ensure packaging components have undergone and passed package/product compatibility and package integrity and ship testing
- Develop specification sheets for all components for each project
- Collaborate with the Planning project management team to develop packaging timelines to ensure on time execution of projects.
- Conduct fill/packaging trial runs at contract manufacturers
- Lead status update meetings and project manage deliverables, serving as liaison between Marketing, Art/Creative, R&D, Purchasing, and the manufacturer on all aspects of development and/or redevelopment, ensuring key milestones are met for launch.
Qualifications:- B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering or related field of study
- 1+ year of related work experience in the packaging industry, manufacturing or supply chain.
- Knowledge of secondary componentry (unit cartons, paperboard boxes/palettes, labels)
- Knowledge of manufacturing, fill and assembly, production cycles and testing procedures
- Understanding of technical drawings, drawdowns, mock-ups and proofing from suppliers
- Knowledge of package development process and project timeline management.
- Knowledge of product/package integration, material compatibility, and functionality.
- Knowledge of printing processes and color matching.
- Knowledge of packaging material sustainability a plus.
- Experience with cosmetics a plus
Schedule:- Hybrid - Onsite presence required at Benefit HQ 3x per week
The target salary range for this position is $34.62/hr-$43.27/hr. The actual salary offered is based on market location and will depend on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, years of relevant experience; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job.
