Job Description

The Associate Manager, Promotional Strategy is a highly visible role within Merchandising that drives the development, optimization, and execution of promotional strategies across Staples Stores, Staples.com, and all marketing channels.

This role is part of the Omni Portfolio team and is one of only two analytically focused roles responsible for analyzing promotional performance across all categories and both Store and Dotcom channels.

You will play a critical role in ensuring the most important offers and messages come to life by combining data-driven insights with strong business acumen, helping shape Staples' Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy and enabling the business to achieve its financial goals.

What you'll be doing:

Promotional & Performance Analysis
  • Analyze performance metrics and promotional results across categories for both Stores and Dotcom
  • Conduct deep dives on category performance and high-impact promotions, including:
    • Store hero offers
    • Loyalty-based promotions
    • Category-specific promotional campaigns
  • Evaluate the efficiency of coupon spend (SFCs) and recommend optimizations
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities to improve promotional effectiveness

Strategic Insights & Forecasting
  • Leverage data-driven insights and business acumen to assess upcoming promotional plans and recommend changes
  • Forecast promotional lift, demand, and associated costs for key campaigns and loyalty-based programs
  • Support planning for future promotional events and seasonal strategies

Reporting & Go-to-Market (GTM) Support
  • Deliver regular reporting including:
    • Seasonal performance (e.g., Back-to-School, Black Friday)
    • Promotional and financial recaps to support GTM planning
  • Conduct post-event analysis ("post-mortems") to identify key learnings and opportunities

Operational & Store Support
  • Provide operational support to the Store organization, including:
    • Price change forecasting
    • Goal setting for Store Key Offers reporting

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Execution
  • Partner with Merchandising, Marketing, Analytics, and Store Operations teams to ensure alignment on promotional priorities
  • Ensure cross-functional teams have clear insights, reporting, and direction to execute effectively
  • Provide project management support for key events (e.g., Black Friday, seasonal campaigns)

Process Improvement & Innovation
  • Execute established processes while identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency
  • Drive continuous improvement, including increased use of AI and advanced analytics tools

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in merchandising, marketing, eCommerce, analytics, or related fields
  • Advanced Excel skills, including building financial models and working with large data sets
  • Experience with analytical tools, reporting platforms, and AI-driven solutions.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting promotions, pricing, merchandising, or marketing strategy
  • SQL experience
  • Project Management

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
