Associate Investment Manager, Legal Counsel

Position Summary

As Associate Investment Manager and Legal Counsel, you will play a central role in the monitoring and management of funded matters, including helping shepherd matters through to resolution and addressing disputes arising under Omni's contractual arrangements with counterparties.

This is a core investment and litigation management role requiring strong judgment on litigation strategy and the ability to effectively oversee and manage external counsel. You will be responsible for protecting and enhancing the value of Omni's investments through proactive engagement with counterparties and advisors.

As needed, you will also support the underwriting function by conducting legal and factual diligence on prospective funding opportunities, along with other responsibilities aligned with Omni's strategy to deploy non-recourse capital in support of meritorious claims.

Key Role Responsibilities
  • Leading post-investment case management, including maintaining client and counsel relationships, monitoring case progress, advising on strategic issues, and making recommendations at key inflection points
  • Serving as the primary interface with counsel and counterparties, ensuring alignment with agreed strategy, tracking budgets, and monitoring compliance with funding terms and documentation
  • Identifying and escalating material legal, factual, and commercial developments that affect the risk, timing, and value of Omni's investments, including adverse rulings, budget variances, discovery and disclosure issues, and other developments impacting funding arrangements
  • Enforcing Omni's contractual rights and managing disputes with counterparties and their counsel, working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors on issues relating to entitlements, breaches, defaults, and potential terminations


Additional Role Responsibilities
  • Conducting due diligence on prospective funding opportunities, including analyzing financial and legal issues, communicating directly with claimants and their counsel, and conducting factual investigations
  • Assisting Investment Managers in the preparation and negotiation of term sheets
  • Providing recommendations as to the appropriateness of funding matters and preparing and presenting submissions to the Investment Committee
  • Meeting and speaking with lawyers/law firms to discuss litigation finance generally
  • Conducting general research on legal, strategic, and other issues as requested
  • Preparing submissions, articles, blogs, and presentations on litigation finance-related topics and assisting Investment Managers with some aspects of their business development activities
