Job Title:

Associate Industrial Engineer

Job Purpose:

Creates a competitive advantage for Hormel Foods by working cross-functionally to optimize manufacturing processes, eliminate waste, improve ergonomics, implement continuous improvement methodologies, and build accurate labor standards, costs, and production capacities.

Responsibilities:
  • Designs, develops, and implements effective and cost-efficient labor standards
  • Supports and maintains departmental production labor cost systems
  • Applies effective workplace designs to meet ergonomic/safety objectives
  • Initiates, supports, and justifies capital appropriation requests for projects and equipment
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reductions and efficiency improvements for the plant and works cross-functionally to implement these solutions
  • Contributes to plant-wide continuous improvement efforts through knowledge and implementation of the Hormel Production System


Required Qualifications:
  • Must graduate in December 2026 or May 2027 with bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Applicants must not now, or at any time in the future, require employer sponsorship for a work visa
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer
  • Must be 18 years of age or older (all plant positions)
  • Must be open to future relocation
  • Must be open to working non-traditional work hours (May include 2nd/3rd shifts, weekends, Tuesday through Saturday shifts, rotating shifts)


Hours:

This is a full-time, salaried position.

Location(s):

This is an on-site position based out of one of our production facilities and multiple locations are available. Location will be discussed during interview process, and availability is subject to current business needs.

Compensation/Benefits:
  • Competitive weekly pay of $1,625 ($84,500 annually)
  • Reimbursement for approved business-related expenses

Training:
  • Spend up to six weeks in a hands-on training environment before promotion to your own department
  • The training program consists of working with experienced Industrial Engineers to learn these basic skills:

- Work measurement, time studies, and process flow

- CAD usage and development of plant equipment layouts

- Usage of our Labor Productivity and Labor Cost software

- Usage of our Data Collection software

- Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

- Ergonomics in a food manufacturing facility

- Continuous Improvement Process (CIP)

- Plant safety rules and requirements

- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HAACP)

- Total Quality Control (TQC)

- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Industrial Engineers attend enterprise and plant orientation sessions that will include presentations by different divisions to increase product knowledge, company knowledge, and leadership skills


Advancement
  • Industrial Engineering is often the stepping stone to corporate engineering, project engineering, design engineering, or plant management. Corporate engineers do mostly project and design work.
  • Additional opportunities may exist in different departments, facilities, or subsidiaries
