What You Need to Know:

The Diagnostic Manufacturing Division (DMD), which is an FDA licensed manufacturer of blood banking reagents, currently has a unique job opportunity for an experienced blood banker as a new product development specialist. You will join an experienced manufacturing team and will be trained to perform advanced manufacturing processing procedures to produce a variety of blood banking reagents. You will learn all aspects of reagent production including finishing and distribution.

You will use your knowledge and experience to design, perform and interpret experiments for new product development as well as designing forms, records and verification/validation studies and protocols. You will establish requirements, identify formulations, verify and validate performance of new products.

You will be able to use your excellent written, computer and verbal communication skills to communicate with customers, coordinate field testing trials, and write standard operating procedures as well as submissions to the FDA.

The DMD team works collaboratively together, and you will become a part of the dedicated team that supplies the 44 Red Cross Immunohematology Reference Labs with quality, cost effective blood banking reagents.

The DMD is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which is close to Washington, DC, and a wonderful, safe place to work and a great area to live.

Standard Schedule: This is a salaried day shift position, with no weekends, holidays, evenings or night shifts. There is call responsibility, but only 2 to 4 weeks per year. You will have the flexibility to set your own schedule when required.

Pay Information: The salary range for this position is: $90,000-$100,000.

Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.

What You Need to Succeed:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

MLS or MLT (ASCP) preferred

Experience: Minimum 5 years blood banking experience or equivalent combination of education and related Medical Technology or related field experience required.

Management Experience: N/A

Skills and Abilities: Ability to work on a team

Travel: May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
