The Job

Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products seeks an AssociateHealth Physicist to join our team. The Associate Health Physicist reports to Supervising Health Physicist, who provides administrative and technical guidance. The Associate Health Physicist is responsible for hands-on and daily support of the laboratory chemists and for specifically assigned aspects of the radiological safety program. Performs routine surveillance procedures to ensure manufacturing work is conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies. Recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation exposure to employees, visitors and the general public. Provides support for non-radiological safety programs. Assists and guides Health Physics Technicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Conduct all assigned tasks in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and Company policies and procedures
  2. Ensure compliance of company work practices and policies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations
  3. Provide radiological surveillance support for production activities covered by Special Radiological Work Permits (SRWPs)
  4. Work and communicate with regulatory agencies and inspectors
  5. Collect, prepare, package and assay radioactive waste for disposal
  6. Provide assistance with analyzing waste samples and coordinating waste disposal shipments
  7. Evaluate internal and external radiation doses received by employees, visitors or members of the public
  8. Ventilation system filtration maintenance. Glove box filtration maintenance.
  9. Conduct radiological assessment of laboratory operations, making recommendations for improvement and reduction in radiation dose
  10. Provide assistance with non-radiological waste programs
  11. Provide assistance with OSHA related safety elements
  12. Repair, maintain and calibrate survey instruments as required
  13. Conduct and maintain inventory and leak test of sealed sources
  14. Maintain/Review Health Physics records
  15. Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: BS degree in Health Physics (or related field) with radiological laboratory experience; Masters degree in Health Physics or related subject preferred.


  • Minimum experience required: 1-2 years of experience in Health Physics-related activities, general laboratory safety, or advanced degree in related fields.


  • Abilities and skills required:
    • Must be able to travel and work in Valencia and Burbank.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Use of Geiger, ion chamber, or other radiation control instruments and meters
    • Analysis of radioactive samples using ion chamber and liquid scintillation equipment
    • Conduct radiation safety surveys and other routine tasks.
    • Perform radiation dose and effluent calculations, and analyses.
    • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Proficiency in standard office software; word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
    • HAZWOPER, CPR & First Aid and Certified Shipper a plus
