Associate General Counsel | Religious Liberty & Litigation | Silver Spring, MD | $124,000-$149,000You'll provide legal counsel on matters that affect the governance, operations, and interests of a worldwide religious organization, advising the General Conference, North American Division, and affiliated entities. You'll work directly with internal leaders, develop legal and organizational guidance, and support the General Counsel on matters where sound legal judgment can shape how the organization responds and operates.
What You'll Do- Provide legal advice and counsel to the General Conference, North American Division, and affiliated church organizations
- Support the General Counsel and provide backup when required
- Provide legal services to assigned departments and entities
- Develop, oversee, and advise on organizational policies and guidelines
- Work with internal stakeholders to develop legal recommendations
- Serve on boards and committees as assigned
- Present legal analysis, facts, and recommendations clearly in writing and verbally
- Handle related legal and administrative responsibilities
What You'll Need- JD from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school
- Current or anticipated admission to the Maryland Bar
- At least 3 years of legal practice
- Active membership in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Strong strategic planning, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage administrative responsibilities and develop short- and long-term plans
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Preferred- Knowledge or experience with church organization and administration
- Experience in relevant legal practice areas
- Knowledge of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs, practices, structure, and policies
- Experience or interest in immigration, parliamentary procedure, and/or data privacy
