Job DescriptionThe ISU Office of the General Counsel provides proactive, customer-service oriented legal support and guidance to clients across the campus community. The Associate General Counsel must: be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; combine legal considerations with program and policy objectives to develop practical solutions that meet client needs; take dedicated ownership of projects; demonstrate high ethical standards; exhibit a strong commitment to the university's mission; effectively train and educate the campus community; and employ excellent interpersonal skills.
Specific areas of responsibility will be determined based on University and office needs in conjunction with the successful candidate's interests and professional background. The Associate General Counsel will generally perform all duties in-person on the Pocatello, Idaho campus.

Key Responsibilities- Proactively advise a wide range of University leaders on multifaceted matters, including investigations, facility use agreements, real estate, affiliation agreements, public records, federal and state regulations, academic and student affairs, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, labor and employment, and risk management;
- Manage legal projects and research as assigned and ensure timely completion and adherence to legal standards;
- Respond to subpoenas, discovery requests, and public records requests;
- Provide legal advice on data privacy and security, including university policy, FERPA, HIPAA, and the Idaho Public Records Act;
- Develop and conduct legal and compliance education sessions for university faculty and staff;
- Assist the Office of the General Counsel in administering institutional legal affairs by performing other related duties as required and/or assigned by the General Counsel.

Minimum Qualifications- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school;
- Member of the Idaho State Bar or eligible for admission within one year of hire;
- At least three years directly related legal experience;
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and have an entrepreneurial mindset;
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a customer-service focused environment;
- Demonstrated ability to be sensitive to and understand the nature of working in an academic institution, where the need for a collaborative working style, flexibility, adaptability, and patience are critical to success; and
- Superior communication skills at a level appropriate for legal counsel.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience advising institutions of higher education;
- Experience in the areas of contract drafting/review, litigation, employment law, intellectual property law, and/or student affairs.

Salary will be between $120,000 - $135,000 per year,commensurate with education and experience.
