Full Job Description
The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a motivated and qualified Associate Executive Director to join our team.

As the Associate Executive Director, you will be responsible for all branch operations and helping to build a culture that creates an extraordinary member experience, encourages employees and volunteers to serve, and inspires committed donors.

If hired, you will lead program operations including, but not limited to, membership, healthy living, aquatics, youth development, and properties/facilities. This position provides leadership to Y team members, creates meaningful high-quality experiences, and ensures successful daily operations of the branch.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures programming meets the various needs of our community and members.
  • Plan, develop and direct quality branch programs, including special events.
  • Ensure that all program materials and content reflect the YMCA mission, values and service to the community.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of each program to ensure a safe and fun environment that is meeting the needs of our members and helping to reach department and branch goals.
  • Direct the expansion programs to the surrounding communities, utilizing off-sight facilities.
  • Assist department heads with the setting of goals and objectives that relate to both short-term goals and the long-range strategic plan.
  • Review and monitor progress toward department and branch goals on a regular basis and provide feedback to the branch executive director and staff.
  • Ensure effective systems are in place to measure the quality of programs and services and to receive and respond to member concerns and comments, in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, train, evaluate and provide ongoing and direct feedback to health and well-being, youth, aquatic, and member services leadership.
  • Responsible for shifts and department coverage that can vary depending on the lack of coverage needs.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
  • Develop relationships with members; capture and share the Y story.


Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency, with experience in volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development (preferred).
  • Knowledge and working understanding of all program areas.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification (preferred).
  • YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent, CPR for the Professional, AED First Aid, and Oxygen certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

Compensation: $84,000.00- $94,000.00 per year (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Associate Executive Director Job Description

Position Summary

The Associate Executive Director provides an environment for staff and volunteers that fosters teamwork, builds relationship, supports the development of quality programs and facilitates good stewardship of branch resources. Provides a quality experience to members, volunteers, and staff focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Program Delivery:
• Ensures programming meets the various needs of our community and members.
• Plan, develop and direct quality branch programs, including special events.
• Ensure that all program materials and content reflect the YMCA mission, values and service to the community.
• Monitor the effectiveness of each program to ensure a safe and fun environment that is meeting the needs of our members and helping to reach department and branch goals.
• Monitor various program indicators and provide reports and other feedback to ensure successful branch operations and data-driven decision making.
• Assist with the delivery of quality programs as scheduled or necessary.
• Direct the expansion programs to the surrounding communities, utilizing off-sight facilities.
• Assist department heads with the setting of goals and objectives that relate to both short-term goals and the long-range strategic plan.
• Review and monitor progress toward department and branch goals on a regular basis and provide feedback to the branch executive director and staff.
• Assist in the development of a membership retention plan and communicate that plan with all branch staff.
• Ensure effective systems are in place to measure the quality of programs and services and to receive and respond to member concerns and comments, in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Conduct an annual member satisfaction survey.

Collaborate:
• Collaborate with the Association Operational Focus Groups and other directors of YMCA PKC branches to ensure consistent association-wide programming.
• Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
• Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
• Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.

Supervision:
• Plays a leadership role in the recruitment, development, and championing of a strong staff team.
• Role model healthy behaviors for staff, members and volunteers.
• Recruit, hire, orient, train, evaluate and provide ongoing and direct feedback to health and well-being, youth, aquatic, and member services leadership.
• Assist in the identification of developmental needs and corrective action plans.
• Ensure the review, approval, and submission of staff time cards to payroll department per schedule.
• Ensure the documentation of volunteer hours and track appropriately.
• Provide all departmental staff with training opportunities to improve skills and increase proficiency.
• Ensure that all mandatory training is scheduled and funded.
• Motivate and care for staff by seeking opportunities to recognize staff and show appreciation.

Board/Volunteer Development:
• Serve as staff liaison to designated boards, focus groups and committees.
• Assist executive director in board recruitment, training and recognition as requested.
• Establish strong volunteer program, gaining community awareness of the Y for volunteerism.
• Establish recruitment, training, administrative and recognition plans.

Work Schedule:
• Schedule varies depending on the program, activity, meetings and special events.
• Responsible for shifts and department coverage that can vary depending on the lack of coverage needs.

Financial Development and Philanthropy:
• Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
