The University of Washington School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director, Strategic Operations and Analytics to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Vice Dean, UW School of Medicine and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs, UW, the Associate Director, Strategic Operations and Analytics is responsible for aligning data sources, analytics practices, and reporting structures across the University of Washington School of Medicine and UW Medicine health system. This role turns strategic priorities into clear workplans, dashboards, performance tracking tools, and sustainable reporting frameworks that support transparent, data-informed decision-making across a complex, matrixed environment.

This role is responsible for coordinating and executing cross-functional initiatives, with a strong emphasis on data management, reporting, and the integration of analytics with emerging AI-enabled tools. Working within a complex, matrixed environment, the Associate Director partners with clinical, operational, and administrative teams within all aspects of UW Medicine to support and track initiatives, enhance data transparency, and ensure consistent execution of defined priorities.

This is a highly visible opportunity for a collaborative operations and analytics leader who thrives in dynamic environments, builds alignment across diverse stakeholders, and brings structure to complex cross-functional initiatives. The role will initially focus on School of Medicine priorities with the opportunity to scale successful frameworks, tools, and models across UW Medicine over time.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management (40%)

  • Partner with leaders across School of Medicine and UW Medicine stakeholders on data management and analytics to develop cross-system dashboards to support goal deployment, financial stability priorities, and efficiency for decentralized data users.
  • Contribute to the development and use of KPIs, analytics, and reporting structures that promote transparency and accountability.
  • Engage with leaders across teams to leverage existing best practices and provide input into new needs.
  • Support data informed decision-making practices across initiative teams and stakeholder groups.

Cross Functional Coordination & Stakeholder Alignment (20%)

  • Coordinate cross functional teams spanning the system, including clinical departments, hospitals, clinics, and UW Medicine administrative units.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with leaders representing clinical departments, clinical operations, and UW Medicine Senior leadership.  
  • Influence progress and alignment across organizational boundaries without direct authority.

Project Management & Operational Excellence (20%)

  • Lead and manage cross-functional projects aligned with School of Medicine and UW Medicine priorities, translating strategy into clear plans, milestones, and success metrics while leveraging data analytics and AI tools.
  • Drive consistent execution and performance by tracking progress across workstreams, defining metrics and data standards, and developing dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Identify and scale process improvements, and synthesize and present data insights, project updates, and performance outcomes through clear presentations to support informed decision-making and alignment.

Governance, Execution, & Change Support (10%)

  • Support governance structures for major clinical affairs and operations initiatives, including executive sponsors, steering committees, and working groups.
  • Prepare materials, analyses, and status updates for leadership and governance bodies.
  • Track decisions, risks, dependencies, and follow through to ensure accountability.
  • Partner with senior and executive leadership to support change management activities, including stakeholder engagement, communications, and adoption support.

Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Provide day-to-day functional direction to initiative team members or contracted vendors to ensure adherence to project plans, milestones and deliverables. 
  • Coach and guide team members and facilitate workgroups and meetings to identify process improvements,
  • Collaboratively create project delivery teams to define and develop solutions that strengthen analytical and execution capabilities across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, health administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or strategic initiatives leadership, strategic initiative design and deployment, or organizational operations.

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience supporting cross-functional projects in complex organizations and using data to drive decision-making and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience with defining data visualization and analytics structures that incorporate best practices, align with organizational standards, and promote the use of trusted, sustainable tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, drive toward consensus across teams, and meet deadlines.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration or business.
  • Experience preparing presentations for executive-level meetings.
  • Experience in academic medicine, healthcare systems, or similarly complex matrixed environments.
  • Familiarity with governance processes, reporting structures, or project management tools.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$120,000.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$170,004.00 annual
