Occupational Summary

Assist in sustaining and enhancing a dynamic shopping environment for students, staff, faculty, patients, web customers and campus guests exemplified by outstanding service, innovation and a diverse assortment of offerings. Direct and coordinate various functions in Stores Operations such as finance, budget, space, facilities, policy interpretation, product movement and service delivery; assist in the formulation of short and long range goals to ensure the financially sound performance of a large, complex, and active retail operation.

Work Performed

Maintain interface with departmental personnel to coordinate operational activities related to ensuring adequate manning, space and facilities and to monitor purchasing, maintenance and renovation activities in order to establish an effective program of asset management and accountability.

Supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Provide leadership and guidance that emphasizes collaboration and communication across all levels. Meet on a regular basis with all full-time staff. Provide a physical management presence through regular, documented visits to all physical operations.

Develop and maintain appropriate communications with Stores stakeholders throughout campus and the health system.

Assist in planning for departmental budget needs by analyzing departmental services and

programs on both a short and long term basis; recommend priorities and

goals for future departmental needs; analyze, develop and implement new

business proposals, strategies and services; plan for capital purchases

and organizational changes based on departmental needs.

Assist in determining fiscal requirements, make projections and provide information and recommendations for development of departmental budgets; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds; ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

Oversee development and implementation of customer service training programs for staff.

As needed, represent Duke Stores in campus wide meetings and industry events.

In conjunction with the Director of Stores, develop both short and long range plans based on industry best practices to continually evaluate and update key components of budget management, such as retail pricing, markdowns, inventory turns, staffing levels, sales, service rates, marketing and product display.

Assist in the direction and maintenance of an environment and culture that promotes Duke's values and commitment to furthering the accomplishment of the University's goals with respect to diversity, inclusion and ESG.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $89,877.00 to USD $179,754.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
